Sliders as chip protection?

I want to put some sliders on my 02 Sport with the fat flares half because I want to get some kind of protection for my paint from rocks since I have no mud flaps. Does anyone know if these offer that kind of protection? I'm looking at some Stubb's Sliders if it matters. I really have no preference of kick out or not.

I have stubb sliders and love 'em. They do offer a small amount of chip protection...but then again, that was not my reason for purchasing them.

If you're simply looking for a way to keep rock chips to a minimum, check out the tacoma mud flaps Jake installed on the front of his 4Runner:

I'm getting a set of front mud flaps from a member here and will be doing this very mod to my 4Runner. Don't know if it will be a pemanent moddification, but it's worth a try.

Click on the link in my sig to see how the sliders look installed on my '02 if need be.

I notice a fair amount of chip protection from my sliders. With the 4 outrigger support bars and the inner and outer tubes, there is pretty good coverage for the rocker panel area from rocks thrown up by the front tires:

I've noticed that the bottom and front-facing parts of the outrigger tubes do tend to get "sandblasted" pretty good and the paint there needs to be touched up from time to time.

Thanks for that info Slide. Do you have any more details on these Tacoma flaps? Part numbers or years would be awesome.

From what I understand, they were on most '01 - '04 Tacos. They may also be offered on other year models, but I'm not that much up on tacoma history. Maybe some guys that own them can give more info. Sorry, don't know any part #'s.

As far as modding them to fit a 4Runner, they will need to be trimmed. However, how much they are to be trimmed is left to your discretion.

I will say this, get them used...do not buy new. I contacted my local toy dealer and they quoted me a set of front mud flaps off an '01 4wd Taco @ $150. That's right, $75 a piece. Crazy I know. My local toy salvage yard did not even have any? Go figure, they're mud flaps, how hard are they to come by.

However, I was lucky enough to find a member here that was willing to sell me his for less than nothing!

Good luck.

Oh, just remembered someone who has a set they'd be willing to sell. Sending you a PM.

I'm wondering if welding some sheet metal to the holes on the sliders will help. I think that's what I'll look into doing when I get my sliders.

if you want mudflap protection without the mudflaps, you'll have to weld in some sheet into the gaps of the sliders. i've got a much wider track with 315's and 1.5" spacers..and no flaps. the spray gets all over the doors onto the rear quarters. of course theres are clear lines along the body where the slider tube is which doesnt get any spray...
