Sirius Satellite radio mounting suggestions needed

Well the wife came through and got me the Audiovox Sirius Shuttle (Satellite Radio System) for the 4Runner. I spend 3+ hours a day in the truck so this will be a wonderful gift. Anyone else have the Audiovox Shuttle? I'm looking for some mounting ideas. There's really no good place to mount it, and wherever I decide to put it will need some custom mounts made. Any ideas? The shuttle is about 4.5" Wide, 3" Tall and 1.75" Deep.

If you don't use your ash tray, then mount it in that pocket under it.

That's where I'm thinking too. I just need to figure out a way to make a bracket that I can mount inside the pocket. That way, I don't have to drill holes in the console around the gear shifter.

Go to home depot and look for some "L" brackets, then you can glue of mount it to the panel.

You definately have a nice setup - very clean, custom install. Mine is a bit different especially in shape and size. This is the one I have (with the car kit):

Sirius Audiovox SIR-CK1 Shuttle

sorry I thought it was the same kenwood as mine, didn't pay attention to the model number.

The only suggestion I have for you is mount it at eye level, or at an angle where you can read the screen easily. Also a place where you can easily reach the buttons, b/c those things are so damn small.

Other then that, take pics and show us what it looks like

EDIT: I just noticed your in chicagoland, where abouts?

Can you see out of the rear view mirror with the PNP there?

SLC Punk:

I noticed a post of yours on the backstage Sirius forum where you posted a pic of your roof mount antenna. I was thinking of putting the antenna in the same place originally, but I could'nt get the wire to fit snug enough to stay in place. It seems that there was too much space around the window. How did you get your wire to stay put?

How did you run your power? What did you tap into? Did you buy an aftermarket adapter wire? Did you use an in-line fuse?

No problems with the rear view mirror, from the angle I took the pic it seems like it blocks the view, but when I'm driving I have no problems.

runner4: I used to live on N. Lake Shore Dr., I just moved about a month and half ago to Md.

If you look at your window molding. The gap (like you described), if you look behind it, you will see where the rubber meets the body. I took a real small screwdriver and small pocket knife and pushed the seal out enough to get the wire below it. Then make sure that the seal doesn't fold.

Probably doesn't make sense, but if you look at your window molding you will understand.

I already had a wire to tap into from a previous failed mod (outside temp gauge)

I used one of those fuse tap's and have it fused through there.

I'll have to look at the windshield. Right now my antenna is on the rear roof, and comes in through the rear hatch. I'd rather move it to the front. Thanks.

I installed it that way at first. But when I opened my rear hatch all the way, the hatch was pressing on the cable. I was afraid that it would short it out. So that's why I moved it to the front.

Do you have the Terk 3 antenna?

Yes, I have the Terk3, but the wire doesn't seem to be getting pressed when the hatch is fully open. I would still rather have it in the front anyways.

Runner4;

I have the Delphi receiver for XM radio which is about the same shape/size of the Shuttle. I don't have a dedicated picture of where it ended up, but you can see it in this shot:

Basically, it's sitting just in front of the transfer case lever.
