After installing a DUAL compressor and DUAL horn setup I can say that it's still useless when it really matters, in snow/rain when everybody has their windows up

 

I had a low note fiamm highway blaster in my old 87 YJ (no flames please I was temp. insane at the time i bought the POS) and I did'nt find it to be low enough though it was louder then stock. The little airhorn kits you can get sound too much like a coffee truck horn to me. What i want / need is the low authority of some 18" hadleys in a compact stock type-ish (hella/fiamm) style anybody got any ideas? Aviator

EDIT just heard your sample midwal sounds pretty good guy. I had a thought as i was waiting for the post to post what about some model T horns ? the "choke the mother-in law " sound might get attn. especially on the freeway ( madel Ts don't go that fast.
As to the guy who wants a "dixie" horn IMO only if your rig is painted orange with a blue 01 on the side and a cenfed. flag on the roof...(yeehaw)...

 

I'm out to replace the high tone blaster on mine - yesterday some water from the car wash must have got in it, because the high tone sonds like crap now.

 

I thought you could just wait for the water to dry and it wouldn't affect the horns?
My car alarm occasionally gets wet and sounds like crap - or is this apples and oranges?

 

Peter, I'm hoping that will be the case. The sound has gotten progressively better since Saturday. I didn't get a chance to beep the horn this morning though - its a bit too early. There may be some electrical contact stuff I can try on it too. If I end up replacing it, its only like $10 if I remember correctly.

I'm currently at 230 miles with no CEL since I cleared it and have been using Rob's fix suggestion. I'm more and more confident that the little gizmo works

 

I was close to Pep Boys today, went in and got the Fiamm Freeway Blasters. Got rid of my Hella's. I like the sound, better than the fruity beep of the Hella and stock Toyota. Nice and LOUD!

Used some washers to space the horn forward of the AC line on the passengers side and fastened a length of rubber hose over the line with tie wraps, just in case.

 

Hey guys I just bought the high and low Freeway Blasters a few days ago from Pep Girls. I have a 1st gen, which only has one stock horn. :cry:
Unfortunately, I didn't check this before hand.

I have the low horn installed now and it is so much better, but I would reallllllly like to install them both. Is there any way to install both horns from one factory hookup? Thanks for any help, I don't mean to hijack the thread!

 

I think you should be able to put them in together.
I would just jump the hot lead from the first horn to the second, then ground the second like you did the first. That is how it is on my 3rd Gen anyway...

They work together at the same time.
One hi note and one low note. They sound fantastic!!

 

Do you use one high tone and one low tone? Sorry for the stupid question, but it was unclear. Can't wait to kill the roadrunner!

One (1) Hi (high) note horn.
In Addition to
One (1) Lo (low) note horn.

 

I've upgraded to dual horns also. I did it the hard way though. Relay, fused 12v power source etc. I even made a "connector" out of the old OEM factory horn assembly so I wouldn't have to cut any wires on the original harness.

The dual horns I got were from an old '71 Buick Electra stationwagon at the junkyard. The horns are huge and pretty heavy too. They fit behind the grill just barely without an inch to spare.LOL! If I had A/C, they definitely wouldn't be able to fit. They feel like their made out of solid cast steel or something. They have a nice loud GM (large car from the '70's) sound. A 1000% improvement over the meeeep...meeeep sound of the stock Toyota horn. Someday, I'd like to add another relay and put another pair of early '70's large-car GM horns on it just to see how that sounds.

 

I've been following this thread since last week and I finally decided to order a pair last Saturday. It came in today and I cant wait to get and put it on.

I just installed the low tone on the passenger side for now, I'll install the drivers side high tone another time, it's a bit more work to do that one. Sounds good though, went out to the trail to test them out

They hold up to mud well. Hyuk.
