They look sweet but seem like a pain to keep clean.

^^^ That looks awesome!! I would be thrilled if I can get mine to come out half that good. I was thinking about doing something similar but possibly using a "TRD" emblem instead of the "Hilux"

Maybe something like this:

Thanks! Those were made with the Home Depot gutter guard for about 5 bucks. I made them but recently re-did with stronger mesh.

How did you make them and what mesh did you use the 2nd time around? I ask because the write-ups that I have found all used straps to hold the grille material to the back of the grille. I like yours because the grille material is even with the front of the grille. Here is the write-up that I have been going off of so you can see what I am talking about:

like big grasshoppers! lol

i still think it's a good mod though...very clean.

i'm going to try to do something similar to my 2nd gen..(in black mesh of course)

it'll have to be strong enough to withstand the carwash though lol

Here is some in black from the place I bought mine. Much sturdier than the gutter guard:

This is what I used as it looked better and didn't bend as easy as the gutter guard:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...Q5fAccessories

It's pretty easy to do and doesn't take nowhere as long as the original Satoshi. I placed the mesh against where I wanted it, marked the mesh where I wanted to cut with a perm. marker (alittle bigger than the opening) and then cut with scissors. To mount, I drilled a couple of small holes next to each other in all 4 corners on the inside edge of the grill opening and the center top and bottom and then I attached the mesh using 22 gauge picture wire from Home Depot. The wire goes over the mesh and then through both small holes and twisted tight on the back side (I used pliers to snug it tight). The wire blends in so you can't even see it. I'll have to snap some pics and post them of the newest grill. It came out very nice. I even have my hood scoop to match...

yes please pics would be nice!

anybody ever seen this done on a 2nd gen 4runner?

i'm about to search the pee out of it..but i thought ya'll might have some archived pics as well!

i think it would look GREAT!

especially with like a small red TRD emblem.

that would look mighty fine behind a big bumper, like an ARB, TJM, or a badland bumper

Any pictures you have of the back of the grille, the mounting points, etc. would be super helpful because I would like to put the mesh in without using any straps. I just don't want to have a bunch of straps behind the grille that are visible when there is any sort of light on the grille...I was also planning on trying to modify my lower valance to be a "satoshi valance" but I am just trying to finish the grille right now.

If you find one camo31, could you post a pic on here please. I too am curious about a second gen runner with one. I have the old TOYOTA grill so I think it'll look pretty sharp.

Okay guys its decision time: I have finished modifying the actual grille and I painted it black (see pic). I decided to paint it black because I wanted to do something a little different and honestly I just don't like a lot of chrome. Now I need to select what kind of mesh to put in the grille. I posted a pic of my 4runner the way it is now, everything is either white or black except for the front and rear bumpers. With that being said, should I go with...

black mesh material:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...Q5fAccessories

OR

aluminum/chrome mesh material:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...Q5fAccessories

Which should I go with? Any suggestions/comments?

I like the black better. But I think both will look good.
