short shifter

Is there anyone out there that knows if i can find a short throw shifter for a 99 tacoma? I found one, but it makes it a little harder to shift up and down. Any suggestions/vendors/private sellers?

I would use a weighted shift rod in conjunction with your short shifter. It takes away the "notchy" feel and makes the shifts smooth as silk.

I use the LCE short shifter and am very happy with it. The synchros protest between 1-2 if I'm impatient...

Sorry to hyjack...but can you explain this better? Is it just a heavier shifter?

The weighted shift rod connects the shifter linkage to the shifting mechanism. The added weight (inertia) makes the shifts smoother. I installed a short shifter on my last Jetta, but noticed it was more difficult to shift. I then added a weighted shift rod and the throw was much easier.

Is there a 'shift linkage' on the Taco in question? Up to 95 anyway, the shift lever goes right into the top of the trans. http://www.marlincrawler.com/shortshift.html

You are correct, there is not an external linkage.

That is what I couldn't understand...since there is no linkage, this does not apply.

get a heavy shift knob... thats what i did... made it way easier t oshift... however, it probably had long term negative effects like faster failure of the seat and bushing

The LC unit is made by B&M, you can save about $25 over LCs price and find a B&M delaer, I picked up one from Summit Racing. I'm designing a spacer to use it on my W56 tranny (neither of the 4- and 6-cyl Tacoma spacers fit). Really sweet unit BTW. You can clock the shifter 3 different directions and it is all modular, so it is nice to work with/on.
