Hey Mike,
If I'm not mistaken, you guys get some pretty hot weather over in San Jose.
I was running a flexalite black magic electric fan ($230). As soon as the temp got to 85* I would overheat. And yes, I'm sure it was the fan. I did a run up a steep windy grade at about 85* and sure as ˟˟˟˟˟ it overheated. I went back home put the clutch fan back on and did the same drive an hour later with not problems at all.

The e-fan freed up some power for sure and I will be putting it back on for the winter months. The flexalite is considered a high end fan, and it doesn't work worth crap. You may want to look into the taurus fan mod (search), it probably moves a hell of a lot more air than the flexalite (although it takes 4 times the power to run it).

Go with the Taurus fan mod and you'll be happy.

one word. AUTOZONE. for about $70, pick up a 16" electic fan.. works great for me! Also: have you guys with the flex-o-lite fan troubles been paying attention to blade-spin orientation? many electrics come set up as pushers, and you need to flip the blades over as well as reverse polarity to make it a puller... just a thought...

I have ran FLX210's for the past 3 years in a couple different vehicles. No problems. And yes, it gets hot here.

Do the Taurus fan mod. $200+ for fans (what I paid) is rediculous for the gains. The Taurus fan mod is much more economical. Andy (Bamachem) has a pretty trick new variable controller on his. Cool idea, it varies the power to the fans based on need. So it isn't 100% on/off, it is varied depending on temp.

They are usually found on 94-95 Taurus w/ 3.8l V6

Looks like this..

It has 2 speeds, and fits on the radiator perfectly. I have mine hooked up to an adjustable fan controller. It comes on at 185 degrees, and is also hooked to the a/c compressor so it turns on when the clutch engages.
