Serpentine belts on the 3.4

As far as I know on the 3.4 it uses a serpentine belt, but there is two belts. One going from the fan pulley to the crank, to the a/c tensioner, to the a/c compressor, to the power sterring pump. The other goes from the fan pulley to the crank, to the alternator. Autozone only lists one drive belt for the 3.4, so do I get two of the same belt?

the 5vze has 3 drive belts plus the timing belt.. you can def check that out just by popping the hood and taking a look.. very diy also if you have a garrett1478 handy

also, unless you did an engine swap, you have the 3.0 v6, not the 3.4 v6..

Haha... Ill go ahead and pop my hood and see... a 3.0 chillin there... NOW, if I pop the garage door I will see the 3.4 chillin on the engine stand awaiting the engine swap. I am prepping for the 3.4 to go in, getting all the parts ready.

ah..very good. you have 3 drive belts then plus the timing belt. Head down to a pep boys or something similar and tell them you need belts for a whatever year your motor came out of (get gates belts) and it shouldnt be too much..like 30 bucks tops with tax.. it will be the easiest belt install you do with the motor on jack stands..

I was at autozone, and they only show one belt for the 2003 Tundra 2WD 3.4 V6 Auto. I bought one, but then realized it uses more than one. My question are all three the same? Do I but three of the same belt? And yes I got a gatorback belt ($17.99 each). And where does the third go?

This pic shows to two I described in the first post:

Or... Now that I think about it... Does one go from the fan pulley - crank - alternator, the next from the fan pulley - crank - power steering pump, and the next from the crank - a/c tensioner - a/c compressor? In the pic the one that goes to the a/c is sorta hiding...?

Well, I just changed the belts on my 96 5vze a few months ago and I know for a fact it was 3 drive belts.. The belts were differently priced, tho not by a large margin, at the oreilleys where i got them. When i wake up in a few hours I will go out side and see whats different.. thats odd that there seems to be a difference, and i just got back from the bars, so ill give you the benefit of the doubt for now haha

in regards to your 2nd post, all the pulleys should be incorporated obviously. Let me go take a picture in the morning and figure out for sure what goes with what.. search around though in the meantime and see if you can find a diagram for the belts..haynes manual will definently have it if you want to buy one.. you will def use it more than once if youre doing an engine swap

Yeah as for the manuals, I will be investing in a haynes or chiltons in the future, not at the current moment though, I have dropped over two grand in the past two weeks on the swap, so I dont need the extra expense right now. Also, I have portions of the FSM for the 3.4 from toyota tech info. I got a day pass to the site, and downloaded some of the manual but I didnt have the time to sit and download the entire damn thing, I will have to save that for another day. I only got the portions with the wiring diagrams needed for the swap.

Gates:
K040413
K040420
K040345
These should all be 4 rib belts, 41 3/10", 42" and 34 1/2"
This is the only aftermarket belt I'll put on my vehicles, but that's just me. Auto Zone should be able to either cross over the numbers or use the sizes to match. Double-check, I got the numbers off the gates website using a '96 3.4 Tacoma.

Best way is to look straight down on top of the belts, the pulleys for each different belt will be inline with one another:

Yes, there are 3 different belts, each with a different part number.
If Autozone is missing the boat finding them, try another auto store.
I'd just go to the dealer, they aren't that much more and no worries if they'll fit or not.

Or have the parts store look up the routing for you when you get the belts.

Isn't that a 3rd belt going to the A/C compressor (from the center of the lower pulley? Or am I just seeing things?

EDIT: oops, looks like this was already covered...

99 4runner, 3.4: http://www.gates.com/part_locator/in...cation_id=3002
Gates K040413
Gates K040420
Gates K040343
That's a 4 rib 41 3/10ths" belt, a 4 rib 42", and a 4 rib 34 3/10" belt.

If they can't interchange they can use the sizes and if they can't use the sizes go somewhere else.
