Yeah, a lot of people are surprised of what 2WD's are capable of. I've read about some PreRunners showing up some lifted 4x4 FJC's. Now that is embarrassing! 
The only downside is when you're in mud or snow. I frequently go up the canyon in the winter time, so 4x4 is a must.
