Searched but Need Help w/ Air Horn
#1
It seems that many people have upgraded to an air horn. I wanted to do the same but I am having problems.
I am using the relay that came with the air horn. Here is how i have it set up
30 direct to battery with a 30 amp in line fuse
86 direct to battery
85 old horn black and white wire
87 + compressor / - compressor grounded
I have read about the toyota wiring being ground positive and wonder how that applies to the air horn relay. Do i need to use the pure black wire from the old horn and the white/ black wire or just one of them? I know that the white/black wire gets hot when the horn button is pressed but thats about all i know.
PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADICE
How exactly is the relay setup with a 4runner air horn. I have seen posts about fog lights and aux lighting but i need to know if i need to use both of those wires from the old horn and HOW.
I even read a post that said to twist the two wires together???
THANKS

Toyota does use a weird system for their horns.
The hot wire is hot all the time going to the horns, and when you push the horn button, it activates the ground.
I have a write-up in our Tech section on wiring up horns that may be of help to you.
Yes, you want to use the relay.

Not suggesting that you do it my way but...
I got rid of my relay.
As far as the wiring to the horn? Well, I wasn't sure which wire at the horn was + and which was -
At the time I thought they were both positive and used one of those (I forget the name) plastic box-like things with a blade that allows you to splice a new wire into a hot line.
I've had my air horns like this for about 2 months now without any problems. I found the installation this way very fast - hardest thing was find a place to zip-tie the horns to. I ended up going behind the bumper facing down.
Hopefully I didn't screw anything up... anybody?
