Sea Foam Treatment Now Wont Start
85 4runner 22re 63000 orig miles - I did a seafoam treatment about 1/3 of a can thru brake booster hose - truck never stalled and not much smoke. Drove about 5 miles and seemed to idle/run much better. Parked it for about 8 days than fired right over and drove to work 40 miles - drove great for 37 of those miles than bogged down than stalled - now it will not start at all.
Also, Mechanic (In Washington D.C) was not too interested in looking at it and told me there is "NO spark and probably the timing chain - I don't feel like getting into it because its so old".
Anyways - I pulled the distributor and noticed the gear is at the very bottom of the Shaft - Is this normal?
Could the seafoam treatment have caused any problems?

it caused me some problems ill never use it again, it crapped up my egr valve pretty bad, i call it snake oil, but thats my opinion and those are like assholes everyone has one and they all stink, but i keep mine pretty clean (haha) In reality it might have stopped up your injectors, and yes the gear is supposed to be at the bottom of the shaft, if you start to go thru your motor, go and buy a repair manual, that will save you a lot of time and $$ in the long run

it could be the timing chain or the distributor gear, but more than likely with the way it sputtered and didn't suddenly die, it could have lost a timing chain guide and then eventually broke the chain.
i don't think you can really blame this one on seafoam...

agreed.....timing chain/cam/distro gear issues. Now you get to do a write up on changing a timing chain change OR a camshaft change OR a distributor shaft change!

My timing chain just broke not too long ago from a bolt coming loose on one of my guides.. Luckily I noticed the engine not running right and turned it off and the pistons didn't hit the valves or anything. But still engine is in the machine shop getting worked over since I got it apart. Mine sounded like it was bogging to. You probably have broken your timing chain. But also check your coil.
