Safety-wired ball-joint boots?
Hi guys,
I'm in the market for a new old 4Runner. Saw one yesterday that I really liked. '98, V6, Stick-shift, runs and drives like new.
Looking in the front wheel wells I noticed that the upper ball joint boots had safety wire around the fat end of the boot. Both sides are the same, so while my first guess was that a boot tore and it was a cheapo fix I started thinking that since they're both the same maybe it was done as a preventative measure? Has anyone ever heard of someone doing that? It was a neatly executed job, and I didn't hear the joints clunking or anything when I drove it at least - couldn't really take a pry bar to them yesterday.
Thanks,
Chris
