Rust on Chrome?

I've got a couple rust patches on my Chrome bumper. I sprayed penetrating oil on the spots to try to get all the water out (chrome is cracking from the rust)

Is there anything I can do to remedy this problem?

Thanks!!

Steel wool and some polish should polish off the rust a bit..

You cant really repair chrome since its a chemical process though. Could sand the bumper down best you can and spray it with chrome wheel paint though and it may look okay.

CJM....

Would that prevent further rusting in that spot though?

I used a rust converter on my hitch last week, that changes chemically rust to black primer. Of course i sanded and prepped it before i brushed it on, the prepped again before i primed over, and painted with rustoleum style rattle can. It looks fairly new,not sure if it would do the same job on chrome.

another option if you like your bumper so much..ebay.

"for me" 3rd gen chrome bumper from stealership= 250

ebay=25 ..under 100 including shipping, easy to replace.

under a $100 for bumper? damn I'm getting hosed. My back bumper which the chrome is peeling excessivly and is rusting out is about $300 from ebay. If the chrome is peeling, your pretty much screwed. I had some pitting on mine that turned into peeling even yhough I found the best stuff to remove rust and polish chrome. Mine rusted from inside out though (I think). If it is just pitted, a little bit of fine steel wool and turtle wax chrome polish with rust remover will help stop it from getting worse. have a spot on my front bumper that is pitted and I use that stuff on it everytime I wash it and it hasn't gotten any worse.
