Rubbing sound from front. Not tires

Been roaming around this site for a while, but this is my first post. Need some help and thinking this is he place to go! Been searchinga round this site for a while and couldn’t find anything.

Recently, I noticed when I’m at low speeds(ie parking, backing up) and have the steering wheel turned half-way or more, I’m getting a rubbing sound from the front end of the truck. Originally thought it was a bad cv axle, but those checked out. Haven’t checked the wheel bearings yet, but it happens no matter which way I turn the wheel. The noise is more noticeable in reverse, but I can faintly hear it in drive, too.

I should mention i ion I bought this truck a couple months ago and have replaced the pads, rotors, shocks and struts. It’s a 1999 sr5 sport with 157k miles. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Have you checked the most basic thing, part of regular preventive maintenance schedule, and possibly most common cause of rubbing sound - your brakes?

Slight play in the wheel bearings can allow the brake rotor to contact the backing plate, check your wheel bearings and see if your backing plates are bent at all.

akwheeler: thanks. I’ll check that out. Sounds like that’s probably the problem since when I did the rotors I noticed the backing plates were pretty rusty. I’ll either cut them off or replace them.

Yes, this is quite possible.
NorthCalifT4R,
I suggest having an assistant turn the steering wheel both directions while tires are on the ground and you observe whether wheel moves with respect to backing plate. Hoping you get this figured out quickly.
