User MIG70, just called me on his cellphone. He's on a cross country trip from NY to AZ.

While driving his 1996 4runner with stock alarm the car locks and unlocks by itself, door lock button won't work, parking lights won't turn off, Horn doesn't work and he can't turn the truck off, or it won't start. The alarm light is steady red, he disconnected battery to try to reset, same thing.

Ideas? I'm on the phone with him now.

 

can he take off the panel below the steering wheel and find a fuse for it? or maybe he doesnt have the tools maybe since he is on a road trip. the RS3000 on my 98 used to go off randomly, i had it replaced.

 

Have him try reaching under the driver's seat and disconnecting the cable to the RS3000 brain.

 

i second calg's solution. i did that and all i had to do is to use the keys from that point fwd

 

+1 I to have a 96 the brains under the seat but I don't recall if you can disconnect all the wire cause it may not start then, try just the power connector (one with less wires) If that dosent work only sure way I know is to disconnect all wires at the brain and then follow the wires under the stearing colum and you will find like a T connector of wires where the brain basicly is T into the ignition wires and you unplug the connectors and reconnect them together without the T wires to the alarm brain. Thats what I did when I removed it when I installed my remote start unit. Hope that helps.

 

Thanks for the help guys. Well, after my post, MIGG decided to make his way to my house and spend the night. After he pulled in the garage, I thought I'd take a look at the brain box. Well, after finding it, I noticed the carpet under it was very "wet". It turns out the cooler he bought leaked all over and under the carpet. I cut off the zip ties holding the brain box in and tipped it sideways. A bunch Kool-aid poured out the brain!!!

I immediately took it apart so I could dry the insides out. Once I got the cover off, it was foaming inside, I'm assuming due to the acidity of the liquid made a chemical reaction. I let it dry overnight and plugged it back in this morning and all is fixed.

Door locks work, parking lights work, and starter works. The only thing is the red light for the stock alarm stays solid and the keyless entry doesn't function. My guess is it might need reprogramed?

LOL Yeah u can imagine my surprise when the 4 Runner went wild. Thanks to you guys and Jason the problem was solved. I cant imagine what would of happened if i had spiked the damn punch. The alarm key fobs have been reprogrammed and my baby is running sweet. Now i just have to have her shampoo-ed clean.
