Angry rough idle when warm???

Man it never ends...., well here it is. So now my 3.slow idles rough after she is warm, BUT only at start-up. If I mash the gas the RPM's jump to normal. What happens is if I go for a drive, let the car sit for 5-30 minutes, then start it,she will sputter like a drunk until I give her gas, then no problem. If I let her sit overnight, she starts up fine with the cold start kickin' the RPM's to 1 1/2 with no help. She has new plugs, gapped properly, new rotor and cap, new air filter (k&N), I changed the fuel filter about 40K ago (even though it's a "lifetime part" ---b.s.) Any ideas???

Lightbulb IDEA

Maybe try reseting your ecu, there should be a tiny push button under the dash near the gas pedel. Push it with the car running, I think. If things go further south it could be an ignition coil or moudlue. I just had mine replaced after things like that happened.

Unhappy still no luck....

well I tried reseting the ecu, to no avail...I just can't figure this one out, my injectors are noticeably ticking, but have be for a while and it's common. I recently adjusted my timing and put new belts on. It's not a huge problem since I can just give her gas and it's fixed but it's not the way I like the engine to be running...still frustrasted......

HAS YOURS GOTTEN WORSE OVER TIME? MINE ONLY DOES IT ONCE IN A WHILE, BUT AS ALL THINGS ARE, I ASSUME OVER TIME IT WILL GET WORSE AND WORSE...BUT MAYBE THAT WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO TROUBLE SHOOT....

First, stop yelling. Use small letters. Second, I would change the fuel filter again. Youmay have gotten some bad gas or gotten something foreign in your gas tank. You may want to get your gas lines flushed and tank flushed if this continues.

Have you guys all cleaned your throttle body?
That is a classic rough idle cause.
Try that and report back.

Sorry they ALWAYS turn on the capslock on at the computer at my work and by the time I noticed it I was in such a rush I just submited it anyway. I knew somebody would let me have it for that. Im gonna go check the TB right now.

Well I just cleaned the throttle body, it looked like a damn chimney...., definately needed a cleaning. I'll keep an update to see if that fixed the problem. However my idle jumped about 200-400 rpm's after this cleaning, I reset the ecu and maybe will try tweaking the idle screw later. Oh, and listen to this, while I was in there with the toothbrush--it snapped , I spent 15 minuntes trying to fish out the broken piece---thank god for long needle nose pliers...so use care when sticken' things in down there!

Yikes!.......that does sound like a PITA.
Next time use a new brush and don't push so hard.
Let the carb cleaner do all the work.

Sounds like that worked like a charm?

bummer, well the rough idle is back..., went away for a few days but did the same thing at start up. And I just can't figure why my idle is so high still. After a morning commute, I get off the freeway and she is still at 1200 rpms..., What's this EGR valve I keep reading about? I also have pinging that never goes away no matter what octane I run, or FI cleaner I use. If my yota didn't look so good I'd drive her off a cliff. (well maybe just the engine)

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve may be the likely culprit.
May want to check to see that it is working correctly.
Some get stuck open and constantly flow exhaust causing a high idle.

Chased this problem for over 5 years. Finally replaced fuel pump. Has run over a month with no more failures. The pump was hot when it was removed from the tank. Went from a solid failure on most warm (10-30 minute) restarts and just before I replaced the fuel pump it would also fail on occasion at a stop light or stop sign. (Was getting worse and I was afraid it would stall pulling out in traffic) Replaced and cleaned a lot of the air/fuel/electrical components (afm, injectors, igniter, throttle body, plugs, coil, etc) trying to nail down the problem. I drive this car a lot so I am sure this was the culprit. Hope this helps.
