I do tend to drive fast but im worried about brake pad life and dust and well overall integrity plus best performance

the real slotted rotors made by powerslot and the like companies are tried and true... and are made for that purpose, not stock ones someone hacked up....

also its ebay... so these people have a cnc... doesnt mean crap as to their ability to know what they are doing.... i have a welder... my welds hold but look like crap.....

 

yuo dotn cut a drilled and slotted rotor... you cut a solid rotor, and or drill it... this cutting is made by a cnc machine

 

For SUVs, it is preferable to have slotted rotors but not cross-drilled ones. Cross-drilling greatly reduces the mass of the rotor which is very important in absorbing heat. Also, it is preferred that the slotting be done during manufacture of the rotor, not after.
Otherwise get blanks.

I've also read about post-manufacture cross-drilled rotors that cracked.

Are your stockers warped?

 

I just picked up a set of Power Stop cadmium plated drilled rotors off Summit racing. Very nice piece of equipment. I am redoing most of my brakes, including extended Pro-Comp stainless steel lines and Hawk HP pads.

 

Warped as a mofo! I get the wonderful pulsating vibrate stopping at freeway speeds.

I got Brembo blanks from taylorautomotive.com and have been thrilled with everything. I especially like the ceramic pads I am running with them as well - never had pads work better the hotter they get

 

What brand of pads are you using?

 

^^ Morse ceramics I got from Autozone. I went in for the PF pads and the store manager (whom I know pretty well) told me about the ceramic pads and such. I did my research online and the manager offered me to swap back to the PF pads if I wasn't happy (sorta a brother in law deal). So I installed them instead of the PF pads.

Its been a couple of months and I have no reason to swap back to PF pads. There is a small amount of dust with the ceramics but its so light colored that you don't really see it at all...wheels look much nicer much longer.

 

The OEM rotors absolutely suck. I have the Brembo standard rotors and PF pads. After about 22k miles, the rotors are fine. The PF pads seem a tad better than the OEM pads and the dusting, which was modertly heavy at first, seems to have pretty much gone away. All-in-all, I'd do the Brembo's again but would try the ceramic pads.

 

I'd go with standard, I've got slotted and stuff gets in the slots and makes a ton of noise and makes the heat absorbtion of the rotor all messed up so it warps pretty quick.

 

Yeah the morse ceramics were 46.99 at autozone.

 

Well guys i picked up the blanks today. I found a local seller for the blanks at $43 each!

 

I have 66k on my 4Runner....I am about to swap out the pads to the Morse ceramics...I bought them months ago for my ex's 4Runner (before she left me) so what the hell I am gonna use them on mine.

Should I replace the rotors even though they seem to be fine? Just curious.

 

Done with the installation. THe morse pads came with a self adhesive shim so i assumed the adhesive is also a anti squeek agent as well. Put them on. Repainted the Calipers. I than cleaned up the brake fluid reservoir, siphoned out the old fluid and refilled it with valvoline synthetic dot4 fluid. Retorqued back the wheels and off for a test drive. Took some turns and hard braking to test it out looks ok to me. Got home and i noticed there was billowing white smoke coming from both wheels. So i am assuming its the pads breaking in.

 

Dude, in all the years of changing brakes I have never had that happen. I hope you didn't go out and slam the brakes everywhere, you need to give them some time to set properly. I hope everything is ok.

 

After driving it again there was no more smoke. Just the brake smell.

 

kevin there is instructions on how to seat the pads....... smoke is bad..... thats overheating... you drained the master? did you bleed the system?
