Reverse lamps not working, help?

My buddies 1994 4runner's reverse lamps have stopped working for him. I said I thought it was a switch that was mounted to the trans. house (5 speed). Anyone had this problem? Where to check for power? Help me help him. Pretty please! Ben

Looking at the wiring diagram power comes from the guage fuse to the switch in the tranny, black/orange wire. Out from the switch is either red/black or red/white to the lamps. Both lamps are grounded with black/white wire to the left rear pillar. If power is getting to the switch then it's probably bad.
One other thought if the lamps are in the tailgate like mine check the bulbs, mine seem to burn out fairly often. I think it's the extra vibration from the tailgate being opened and closed.
