Hey everyone, I’m hoping I can get some help diagnosing. I just completed replacing the timing belt and water pump on my 2001 4runner. Or so I thought, when I started the truck I was very briefly satisfied. Truck run for a second then died. The MAF sensor is in not the problem. The cam sensor is in place and no wires were cut when putting everything back together.

What other things can i an I check before I give up and tow to a shop?

You are aware of ensuring you line up the timing marks yeh?
If its all lines up, it sounds like somethign has been forgotten to be plugged back in.

 

Could be many things like an intake leak, sensor issue, timing out, but I wouldn't take it to a shop now or you will have to redo everything, open it back up and check everything

 

The two most common would be misaligned marks or something broke/not plugged in. Recheck your work.

 

$1 says you missed a ground or a connector. It sounds like you had just enough fuel pressure for one short run and now you have none, the fuel pump is not running. (checking my psychic mechanic abilities)!

I think it's psychotically acceptable if some of us from time to time 'talk' to our yotas when making it through a drive (especially challenging times).

Thanks for the help! It took me some time, and i'm still not exactly sure what the problem was. Yes I made sure the timing marks were lined up before releasing and after releasing the tension on the tensioner. I spent some time making sure that was accurate before buttoning everything up! Anyways, I pulled some stuff apart, timing was still on. checked grounds and vacuum lines and then just started unconnecting then reconnecting everything. After the third time, she started up and has been running ever since. All I can think it was was a connection that wasnt secured. which one? not sure. Now i'm sorting out P0446 and P0440 codes after all that. should be simple, i'm starting with the gas cap and the pcv valve.
Oh and before I forget, I did talk to the truck. Alot. most of it was nice, but could not refrain from some frustration coming out. it could have been slightly psychotic at times. All of it seemed to benefit!

 

Off the top, likely something with the EVAP system...so checking around the charcoal can and the hoses and electrical connections would be where I'd also check.
