I was wondering if the dealership will try and charge for the alignment, or just not do it at all. Hopefully the recall mentions an alignment after the work is complete. I will make it a point to make sure they do the alignment after messing with the suspension.

Funny thought here.. do you guys ever think that they are recalling those truck not for what they say they are going to do, but in fact a bigger problem that they dont want to get into the papers...? the thing that they say there fixing is in fact not even getting touched. Which makes us think that toyota is very specific and picky about their vehicles... hmmm...

I was thinking this myself. Six found problems out of 700,000 vehicles certainly would not justify a recall, particularly with Toyota. I expect there is something else going on here that Toyota doesn't want to have leak out.

Case in point, they made several thousand 4Runners with defective fuel gauges and haven't recalled them yet, while Audi recalled all their defective fuel gauges citing its a safety issue. And if you don't think a lying fuel gauge is a safety issue, try running out of fuel doing 70 in rush hour traffic with no warning while the gauge reads 1/2 tank.

Or is "thee" Karl Malone really Carl Malone with a "C"? I never watched any mainstream sports so I do not know. I just know he played basketball.

Yes, it is the Karl Malone basketball player who has a stake in that dealership. The parent owner is the Larry H. Miller Automotive Group, who owns (or has large shares of) several car dealerships in the western U.S. Unfortunately for Albuquerque residents, LMAG is the parent owner of both local Toyota dealerships (American Toyota being the other), and they operate just like you would expect a monopoly to.

Maybe Muhammad Ali should be their spokesman or a salesman.

It's not him, but it may as well be.

Update!!!!

Ok, the recall is on the lower ball joint. The equipment that Toyota used to make the ball joint scratched the ball. This is making it wearout faster.

The dealerships will get more information on this is about mid June and we will start to fix the problems at the end of June.

Hope this is helpful.

John

My buddies who all own GM products are giving me hell about this recall saying "Toyota has the biggest recall in history...bigger than ford or gm." Frankly I could care less but it's just funny hearing my friends get all worked up and excited about little toyota's getting recalls when they all drive cummin's, p strokes or duraduds.

Production date?

OK, my production date is 10/00 but my VIN fits in the recall range (I think). My VIN is JT3HN86R9103XXXXX. Is my 4Runner affected?

Dianna, As I understand it your 4 runner will not be recalled because of the manufacturing date. My Tacoma was built in Calif. on 11/00 and the recall is for the one's built after July 01. If we recieve a letter I guess we'll know, Lol.
In away I was hopeing that mine would be recalled. A free set of ball joints after 70,000 miles is fine with me. Mike

How soon people forget....Jusk remembering all the people who were killed by Ford rollovers before they finally admitted they had a problem and payed out millons in lawsuits. At least Toyota takes care of the problem before it gets worse and they are not saying that it's someone elses problem.
If it was Ford they would blame the problem on the tire manufaturer,Lol. Mike
