Question Rebuild advice...

Where I'm at now:
I have the block assembled up to the EFI but no EFI on yet. Sparkplugs, injectors, heads, oil cooler, oil filter, oil pan are all on and it is in the truck. I have the starter on also.

I would like to know what you guys think about hooking up the battery and throwing in the oil to go ahead and crank it now to make sure the starter is hooked up right and test for oil leaks before I finish the full install. Also check for any funny noises. Is it ok to do?

If you oil the pistons, be sure to leave the spark plugs out. It would be a shame to break a piston.

I put in 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and turned it last night. No funny sounds and no leaks. I did have the plugs in though... Why would that be bad? I know gwhayduke said I could hurt a piston, but all sounded and went ok.

If you had put too much oil in the cylinders, installed the plugs, then turned it over, you run the risk of hydrolocking the engine. It sounds like you're ok!

Good God, man! I might as well drop a Ford engine in it if I were to do that! That is all powder coated, actually. I'm not sure of the name of the color but is a rather electric blue.
