Rear window stopped working, kinda
The rear window on my 1st gen works fine when you use the key from the outside. However, my window switch on the console only works if the window isn't completely up. I can get out of the truck when the window is all the way up, crack the window from the outside, get back in the truck, and the switch works fine, up or down. That is until you roll the window all the way up, then the inside switch doesn't work, even if you use the inside switch to roll it all the way up. Anyone have any clues?

There's a window limit switch in there, crack open the tgate, and clean up some terminals. You can probably find what is going wrong by studying the mechanisms. If you need these pages from the FSM I can scan them for you, they include switch testing proceedure.

I need to get into mine and reconnect the defrost. By the way, while you're in there nail all the moving parts with teflon bike lube, after I did this two years ago my window was FLYING up and down, and is still running awesome!

While we're on the subject of rear window problems, my rear defrost isn't working either. There are no breaks in the strips on the window, no blown fuse, and the switch lights up when turned on, any suggestions? And thanks for the help on the window!

yeah there are sensors in the latching part of the tailgate and there is a switch activated by a bolt that holds the TOP down, I had so much trouble with my back window I ended up hardwiring a switch with 12V feed to the window

Back window wasn't working for me Items I replaced from the junkyard go as follows... A window relay sensor about 3rd bolt from back on driverside of shell, the little grey box???? and when that didn't work the entire harness for that side... Previous owner decided to modify it for trailer lights and to run his amp and subs... total cost of parts from yard 20 bucks.... total cost from stealership I am very afraid to ask..

My 85 runner had similar symptoms, I checked the rocker switch and found half of it was not working. I ended up replacing the rocker switch with one I pulled from a 95 runner in my local Pick-A Part.
The plug didn't match, so I CAREFULLY cut and soldered the plug from my old switch onto the new one. Worked like a charm!
If that switch is not working right, your window will evuntually stop working all togeather.
Definitely check out 4Crawler's page.
