Rear suspension OME 890 or 891

Hi Everyone, I'm new here. I have a 98 4 runner which I am looking to lift. This is my first modification. I have read alot about the Tundra coil lift and it sounds awesome but I am a little timid in trying it because I don't quite understand it. I decided on OME 882's on the front, for the height and I have a 110lb brush bar. In the rear I was thinking OME 890's or 891's. I want as much height as possible without the back end sticking way up in the air. I don't mind a little higher, an inch or so is fine, However I don't carry alot in the back so I don't want it to feel like I'm riding on concrete. I also don't want the rear to sag when I do load it up for trips. Can anybody help me out there.
Thanks for all your time, 98T4R, in need of lift

How tall are you looing to go????

This is the best lift out there:

system 1 would be the one you would be looking at most likley....

If you look at all the stuff you get there, that is a deal!!!!!

Hope this helps!

use 891's and don't forget the diff drop bracket. Before i had bumpers and such, I got about 3" out of my 882's and 3.5-4" with my 891's.....

I've had very a good experience with my OME, so good luck-

oh yeah, and I got my lift for under $550

Ome 891's

Hi Hoju, I checked out the pictures of Betsy, she is beautiful. Do you carry much weight in the back of your truck. Is the rear end hard with the 891's. And, do you have a body lift on her aswell or is that just the 882"s and 891"s that allow 35's. Finally , is betsy 2wd or 4wd because she sure does look tall in the pictures.

Hi Mr Bob, I'm looking to lift it about 2-2.5" up front and about 3" in the back. I like the slightly tilted look and the 4runner comes factory 1" higher in the back anyway, then when I load it with gear the backend will not look saggy. My problem is I would like to go with 891's in the rear but I don't want a harsh bumpy ride when I'm not carrying weight.

It won't be that bad with the 891s and if you really want 3" of lift in back that would be the way to get it (you could use spacers too). I have 881s in front and 890s in back so it may be close to the same up front if you are going with 882s and carry 125lbs extra on the front. It really is a tossup.....the biggest unknown is what final lift you are going to get up front. Maybe order both sets (890s and 891s) and then put in a set after you install the fronts. My hunch is that 891s would probably sit an 1" higher in the rear and the 890s will be very close to dead level (depends on what look you are after).

so your saying with 890's in the rear and 881's in the front you sit pretty much level?

typically, yes. But depends also on what shocks you mount them with. If you keep the stocks my "yes" answer is out the window.

The rear will still be about 1/2" higher, but it looks more or less level. Any weight up front and it will start looking like a drag racer. So 882s with any decent amount of weight should be level with 890s in back. The 891s will be about 1.25" higher in the rear but if you carry weight or tow, it will likely be sitting level. Again, depends what look you are after and if you will carry gear up front or in the rear.

Here's my 4runner the day i got the lift put on. Because of my stereo in the back, it's sagging a little bit, IMO. But, that's 882's with diff drop and 891's with 10 trimpacker and HD shocks all around.

I was thinking of spacers but I'm starting to head toward OME front and rear.

I only want about 2" in front and 3" in back. I need to still get into a garage and this is all the room that I have between my rack and the opening.

Below is what I was told by an OME dealer.

I hear that the OME 880 will give me about 1.5"-2" in front, 881 for a heavy bumper/winch. And 906 or 890s if I tow alot and would give me 2"-3" in the rear. I was also told that I should not go with the 891s only if I was going to carry a constant load of 660lbs.

Who is the best and least expensive OME dealer?

I got about @1.5 - 1.75" in front (tough to measure) with 881s after they settled.
There are a few running 880s and 906s on here, but not many.

You might also read these if you haven't already:

From what I gather people with the 880s were getting about 1" of lift (vs 1.5+ with the 881s). You will definately have a visible tilt to the vehicle with 880s up front and 890s in the rear (alot of times you see people eventually put a 1" spacer in up front to compensate for the tilt later).

Yeah I absolutely would (but keep in mind I am not a hardcore offroad guy either).
It gave me exactly the look I was after, rides great and didn't break the bank.

Does anyone have 891s on the back of their 4runner? I do tow and haul a fair amount and am thinking of 891s over the 890s. But I dont want to go too stiff that it won't flex and or feel like a buck board on the road.

I would go with 891's! less chance of a major sag after towing
