Rear Speaks

What is the largest size anyone has fit, not only as in width but depth, in the rear doors of their Runners?

My roomate found a awesome deal on some alpine type R 6 1/2's

Will they work? and if so....Can I fit even larger or is that about the extent i can cram in back there?

i think it's been discussed here too. im not sure but i think the biggest width was 5.5" or maybe that's stock. you can always do some trimming.

i just replaced mine about a month ago with MB quarts. i think the size they said they put in was 4". now thats not very big at all i was very surprised. they might be a little bigger, but that was the size the shope by me said they were.

P.S. i already blew out my rear MB Quarts so i wouldnt suggest those in the rear if you are going to be powering your speakers with an amp

I put 5 1/4" Kenwood components in my rears without trimming. Anything bigger you'll have to start cutting.

I was able to throw, well my friend moreso while I observed some 5.25" speakers back there, and that was without any custom work or cutting. I called Crutchfield and they told me that I would need to 'fabricate' a bracket of some sort. Problem is that the speakers are already in and work fine. Hope this helps.

Supposedly the rears are 4". I squeezed in 5 1/4's no problem. I would also suggest adding tweeters to the rear as well. This really helps with the rear fill.

Appreciate it everyone, I'll be staying away from those Alpine Type R 6 inchers.

It all depends on the speaker set. Each company makes their speakers with different size brackets. For instance, I had JL 6.5" in my front doors that fit on the stock baffle with just a 1/4" spacer. I'm in the process of replacing them with Dyn equivalents (MW160). These things have a huge basket so I have to rebuild the factory baffle and bring it out some more as well.

That said, people have been able to squeeze 6.5s back there, but most go with 5.25s. Check out the size of the TypeR's baskets and see what you have to work with int he door.

found some specs on their website.
