How do you get the drum off? My e brake is off, but the thing is still stuck.

 

On mine a couple good taps from the hammer usually losen it up.

 

No to highjack but will that give access to the lugnuts? I need to replace one of them.

 

yes, once the drum is off, you can pound the old one out of the back and install the new one

 

There is a little rubber plug in the backing plate that you need to pry out. Then reach through the hole with a couple of screwdrivers or similar tools and turn the adjusting wheel to pull the brake shoes in a little.

Also, there should be some threaded holes (mine are 8 mm) on the outside of the drum. You can thread the right sized bolts into those holes (usualy 3 or 4 holes) and as you thread them in it will push the drum off.

Also, as already mentioned, a big friggin hammer can help speed up many automotive repairs.

 

lol I was picturing the wheel still on being you said lug nuts not lug nut studs. Scared me for a minute. Good luck

 

Thanks for the info (man this site is amazing!). Yes it is the lug nut stud (or whatever site on the rear drum) it broke off yesterday (argh).

 

I beat it with a hammer, I turned the adjusting wheel in the back, I beat it some more. No dice, I gave up...

 

Put some anti-seize on the backside after you get it off. This will make it much easier to get off next time.

 

In the picture above, you'll notice there are 6 holes in between each wheel stud. On the one nearest the hammer, there's an extra hole, and one across from that. Like someone else said, use two bolts in these holes, to push the drum off, you'll need a bolt with the right size thread, with about 2 inches of threads to have enough bite to push the drum off.

 

Thanks guys, I thought it was going to be an easy process. But after not being able to get the damn thing off, I dropped it off at a friends. Sitting in the hot sun tryin to get if off just wore me out.
