Rear Diff Blew Up - My Options??

Well my rear diff started clunking and popping this weekend. Had to have it towed to the shop that I use and now need to figure out what I am going to do. I have a 99 runner with the e-locker and stock gears. What are my options? I did a search but couldn't find anything specific. Can I get new, non-stock diff that is heavier duty but that works with the elocker and is the same gear ratio (4.10's i think??)?. Any help is greatly appreciated as this is my daily driver and I need to get her running again. Thanks!

What kind of abuse did you put it through? Yikes! I see you have the SC'r, but what kind of things have you done in your rig to cause this?

Personally, I would just get a new OEM 3rd and pop it in.

I dont know! I bought the truck used with 13,000 miles on it but it was completly stock and owned by an elderly guy who barley drove it. I have no idea what could have caused it to go with only 43,000 miles on it. Even wierder is that it just went all at once while driving through downtown Seattle. No humming or anything prior. For the OEM 3rd - do I need to get that though toyota?

No, you should be able to find a used third member on ebay or on some toyota boards like yotatech or pirate4x4. buy a used third member w/ the e-locker already installed and then after the swap, you can sell your old third w/ chewed up gears and get a couple-hundred for it just for the e-locker.

You can also have a rear end shop install new gears. Figure $125-200 for gears, same from setup and then whatever bearings and whatnot you need. Was the gear oil level proper or did it have water in it? Is the pinion flange loose at all? If so, that could have caused the problem.

I'd just re-gear your existing diff. Now's the time to change ratios if you need to

Aren't you still under powertrain warranty? Is the 3rd considered "powertrain?"

Thanks guys. I will check over on Pirate and ebay. Can I get a locking aftermarket rear (arb, powertrax, detroit etc...)?? If so, do I need to get an air compressor too or do these come with an electronic locker?? If I can get one of these, can I get them in the stock gear ratio so i don't need to regear up front too??

what could cause this, would burnouts and donuts and spinning out in grass cause it?

due to your axle housing your pretty much stuck with an e-locker. but thats not a bad thing, i have an e-locker i bought from a salvage yard with 4.10 gears. im not sure if i have 4.30 or 4.10, if i have 4.30 gears id be willing to sell

When do you you think that you will know what gear ratio you have? I am leaning towards getting a used or reman. elocker and pluggin it in. i would be very interested.
