Rattle in dash

Riding down the road, no music, i hear the constant rattle of some object in the dash. its up high in the dash where the vents are next to the windows...... now could i get to this rattle possibly by taking that vent off the top and looking in with mirrors or something? or do i need to take it to toyota, we tried having the problem fixed when we bought it but they said once we bought the truck the warranty was up. i dont understand it, i wasnt their when the deal went down, but it is... what to do?

I had this same rattle in my 98 Tacoma. I simply pushed (pretty hard) on the upper left corner of the dash, which effectively snapped something into place (I could hear it). Rattle was gone after that.

Just an idea.

i had this rattle begin when it got cold. I really thought it was in the dash!! I read up on those tsb's and what i did was get some of that foam strip about 1/4inch thick and the length of the winshield (i can get the right measurements later) and stuffed it in between the glass and the dash. Also i put 3 small weather stripping pieces bewteen my hood and in-cab air intake cowl. Rattle gone!!!

If you remove the instrument cluster you will notice a plastic clip on the upper left that attaches the upper dash trim to the under structure. That clip seems to wear and not hold the trim snug. With a piece of wire or nylon tie wrap secure the dash trim to the firewall area with enough pressure to stop any movement. There will be a few tabs and holes in both areas, plenty of attachment choices.
