I have a 92 4x4 and it has developed a rattle behind the dash, it's driving me nuts. It rattles when I go over bumps in the road, and sounds like a cable is comming loose. What can I do to fix this and has anyone else had this problem. Thanks in advance

it's a notorious problems for tacomas, sounds like for 4runners as well.. there have been some toyota service bulletins, but you'd have to check for your year (you can do this by calling the dealer). without taking the whole dash apart, there isn't much you can really do besides turning up the radio.

We found a strip of protective clear tape snapping in the wind after we had our windshield replaced on my girlfriends 95 Runner. We spent weeks looking for the source of the noise! We thought it was in the dash, I was about to tear it apart!!

The dash in the 92 isn't very hard to disassemble. (I just had mine apart.) Go for it! Get some scraps of that sound deadener stick on matt stuff and go in there and just stick it on anything and everything that looks like it could rattle. Of course, AFTER you've looked and tried to find the source of the actual rattle.

 

I've got it too...this weekend I am going to take EVERYTHING out of the Runner and see if I can find it. I think my glove box might be loose or somethin I'm not real sure.

I know my speedo cable needs to be replaced or lubed cause it rattles like crazy when its cold and I'm at the right speed.
