Radio Works... but no power???

Ok, strange question really. I have a Sony CDX-M800 stereo installed in a 2000 4runner. It's the one that opens/closes, 2 displays, etc. Well, when closed, the outside display has power, and the remote works. When it OPENS, however, the unit's interior display has no power, the controls don't work, nothing lights up.... but it still works! I can use the remote to change channels, everything??!?!?!

The only thing I have done recently is the deckplate mod/elbow removal, which I turned the unit "off" before doing.... Are there any fuses, etc that I should pull besides the battery? Has this ever happened to anyone before, or is this piece of junk just worthless?

I'm thinking there's some sort of relationship between me turning the unit 'off' and removing the EFI fuse/airbox afterwards, but that's probably correlation versus causation...

no, i didn't touch a thing, I just turned it off... and it's not a settings issue (i don't think) because none of the buttons on the inside work. No setting does that.

tried resetting it. Now have the battery off, gonna see if that fixes it. It's wierd that the radio, just not the inner-display/buttons, work...

2 or 3 years. It can't be a fuse because the rest of the unit works, right? I mean, functionally it's still fine, just a bit annoying that I have to use my remote to do everything.

yea, I have a sony HU and the radio will work, but the power to the faceplate will go out. I just reset it and everything is ok. I wonder if its an anti-theft thing...
