quiet high flow muffler?
i'm looking for a cheap muffler that will give me better flow but be quiet as possible. i have a dynomax muffler but it sounds like ˟˟˟˟. it has a loud rice rocket sound to it. how are those summit ones or any other cheap ones. its for an 88 p/u with a 22re.

I have a flowmaster 60 series on my 3.4L. It sounds great, its loud, but not obnoxious. The best thing is that it is very quiet on the freeway, so I don't get the drone sound that drives people crazy. The shop salesman told me that this is the muffler to get if you don't like the raspy high-pitched tone. He said that Flowmaster made this muffler for 4 & 6 cyl engines, so it cuts those high sounds out, I have had it for almost 2 years and agree with his sales pitch.

Borla
I have a Borla cat back on my 88 v6, it has a nice mellow low tone that is not that much louder than stock at idle and while driving. The only time it gets a little louder than stock is if you were to pull out from a dead stop by punching it to the floor, then it puts out a low growl, NOT a ricer Honda civic with a loud muffler sound or I would have taken it off 6 years ago and beat it with a hammer and recycled it!

It sounds good, nice and throaty, doesnt have that high honda civic coffee can sound.
Most of my passengers dont like it cuz its loud, but im used to it not and it sounds quiet to me, so i dont care.

The best way to make it sound deeper/ throaty is to go with bigger piping
and a high flow Cat. I have a flow master and high flow cat with 2.1/3 inch pipe and it is load but dose not sound like a little rice burner it sounds very deep.
If you want it to be quiet but want it to breath better then I would just go with new headers and a high flow Cat.

I just scrapped my magnaflow muffler since i got sick of the noise and went with a bosal exhaust from the cat-back. You dont hear it until you punch the gas. Its a perfect fit to your vehicle, built great and the price is good.

40 series flowmaster is loud, i have one on my truck now that i took off my ford explorer after it died...... i love the sound, and all the girls can hear me coming and going, they like it becasue it sounds like it might be fast, but it isnt high pitched like a ricer...

If you want quiet and high flow, you must get a BIG muffler. Try a diesel muffler or a stocker off a big engine SUV that has been cut out in favor of a Flowmaster or something. I know the muffler shop by my house will save a cut off for me if I ask.
