Quick muffler question

After doing a search and reading the recent threads I am ready to get a Magnaflow muffler. I have spoken to several shops and I get various ways of installing it and now I'm a bit confused. One shop said I can just cut my old muffler out and they would weld in a new one using my factory pipes. Stainless tip would be extra. Their total cost would be about $250.
The next shop I spoke to said they would trplace the muffler and tailpipe. They said if they didn't do it this way they there would be problems with condensation in the muffler. They said it would sit at a weird angle. Their total cost was $320 not including a stainless tip. I want to keep a 2.25 diameter.
So what do you guys think? I would like to do this on this coming Monday. Also, Iam in Denver right now near Cherry Creek so if any of you know some good, trustworthy muffler shops in the area, please let me know. Thanks!

When i had my Flo-Pro installed they installed the muffler and the tubing all the way back.
My stock tubing was rusted and needed to be replaced. The mechanic working on my rig did everything by eyeball.
He was real good. He would take a look then take the tube over and bend it take anouther look and bend it some more.
He did a great job.
I would have them install a new muffler and tubing with a nice tip.

What cha doing in Denver? Your a long way from home

Hey Toddski,

I don't have any rust issues yet as my Runner is only 2 years old. The pipes still look pretty good. I just talked to another shop and he said that I could just have a new muffler alone welded in and total cost would be $150 out the door. I am working at University hospital in Denver until November. I am trying to get into my girlfriends Family Medicine Program so that I can move out here permanently.

Hello TS, man, that first quote sounded like it was for a stainless steel muff which Magnaflow does carry.
Mine is the aluminixed one that I have the part # for on the exhaust page.
Or that shop is awfully proud of their work.

What a lot of the 3rd genners do is use the stock pip and just have the muff slipped in where the stock one was.

You already have 2.25" pipe, unlike 2nd gens which have 1/78" I beleive.

Your last post is better at $150, but that still sounds like a lot.
Labor is about $50 to cut out the old muff and replace it.
Not sure on the cost alone of the muff, but it is more than the Dynomax and others.

My Magnaflow (Same one Corey has... Part#11225) cost me about $65, not including installation or my new tubing. I have a 2nd Gen (1991) so I had all new tubing put in (2-1/4") from the catalytic convertor back (Commonly refered to as a Cat-Back )
Out the door it cost me around $250 (including all parts, and labor) $150 Seems a little high to me for just getting a muffler installed, but if that's the cheapest place near you, then by all means go for it. It really is worth every penny (even though i've only had mine for less than 24 hours And you certainly won't be disapponited with the Magnaflow :beaver:

Good Luck with it!

wow

I can't believe it costs that much where you guys live just to get a muffler installed. When I got my flowmaster, the whole thing including installation was $100. I just got a turndown welded on after the muffler, so no exit pipe. $350 for a muffler installation??? For that much I'd buy my own welder and do it myself.
