Problems running V6 on open headers?
will i run into any problems if drive my 4runner on open headers without the 02 bug hooked up? is there any thing i need to do to protect the o2 sensor? this would only be for the trail run after rebuild and a 10 mile drive to the muffler shop to have a cross over built...

that might cuase all sorts of driveability issues and it is going to be loud.. the computer needs a little bit of backpressure to operate correctly, and open headers is even less backpressure than a freeflowing exhuast... also i would be worried about accidentally sucking cold air up the exhuast and bending a valve.....

I ran mine with open headers on the way to the muffler shop. I took a sock and stuffed it in the pipe in front of the cat and whenever I turned the engine off I put two more in the header pipes so air wouldn't travel up them.
It's going to be REALLY loud. It's easier to take the freeway with it like that because it has no low end. You have to ride the clutch to get it to move but it's fine once it's flying along. Just keep your RPM's up.
You'll be fine.
