Problem shifting to Reverse

Hi all,

I just bought my 2000 4Runner SR5, V6, 5spd and I've been noticing a problem
when shifting into Reverse. Sometimes it won't shift into gear.... it gets stuck, is like something is blocking it from shifting.
I don't know or remember if I was on a hill going up or down or if even matters. I have noticed though that when I shift quickly into 1st and then into reverse it seems to go into gear w/o a problem.
Is this something I should be worry about.??? I'm taking my car to Toyota for the 60K miles check up this saturday. Not sure if I want to mention it to them or see if they find a problem themselves.

Thanks in advance,

maguirre

Every Toyota that I have ever owned or driven has had the same problem. I don't even notice when mine does it anymore, because it happens so often. Ussually if you put it in 1st and then go back to reverse it works fine.

Check your slave cylinder fluid reservoir.

Every manual transmission has this issue to some degree. Reverse is an unsynchronized and sometimes straight cut gear which doesn't line up with the other gears as easily.

No worries.

Yea usually have to row through all the gears to get it into reverse. At first it was a pain in the arse, but now I don't even notice it...
