Portable Winch Mod...
Hi people, so I finally had time to finish my portable winch project today. The final touch was to adapt a set of 20' 1/0 booster cables with a quick disconnect plug on the one end. Now, anyone with a 2" receiver hitch can use the winch. Say you have a line of 4 or so rigs and none with a winch and someone in the middle is stuck. Instead of having to double back to help out (which is often impossible to do) you just have to pack the winch and booster cable to the guy with a receiver hitch and connect to his battery and away you go! Also for me to boost someones battery, all I have to do now is to connect to the dead battery and plug the other end in to either end of my rig (which already has the plugs mounted and accessible) and that's it. Nice thing about the quick connects, you don't have to worry about grounding out the lead because they are not exposed!

That's Great
I love the idea of using the booster cables! Maybe you can help me. I have a 95 4runner v6 3.0 and I am having trouble finding a front receiver. Any ideas? Warn makes one but it only fits the 4 cylinder models apparently. Could you also tell me how you made the pig-tails for the winch to booster set-up? I'm sure it was more than just a splice and twist. Is there a fuse in there?

Sorry, no idea on where to find one for the 2nd gen... if Warn makes it for the 4 banger I'd guess it wouldn't be that big a deal to modify it to fit if it needs it. Seems weird to me that it wouldn't fit a V-6 equipped Runner. Not sure what you're asking about the cables but on both ends they're soldered onto cable end connectors. The winch end to eyes and the plug end into the quick connectors. I had a breaker set-up on the auxiliary battery but it often overheated so I got rid of it. So basically the winch is wired directly to the aux battery.

Going to put multiple receivers on my trailer so I can do something like this for getting non running Toyotas onto my trailer. I like the jumper cable idea with the quick connects.

2nd batt winch question
I'm new to all this but I want to do it right. So, is a second battery even necessary if all I am doing is running a winch and three 100 watt lights? I'm not planning on doing all-out rock crawling. The winch will be used if I get stuck in mud, sand, or snow.
