Post Performance upgrade...

For those of you interested in more horsepower, have you ever considered an ignition amplifier? I have no idea what it does or is but a friend of mine has one on an old Volvo swears he gained lots of performance from it.

Does anyone have any experience with one or have tried one? I know they're poplular with the import crowd. Maybe there are benefits to our power hungry egos.

Any info would be great!!

These are really only necessary on high compression vehicles, or ones with turbo's and superchargers. The stock coil produces plenty of spark on a stock truck, but the higher compression s/c'd trucks and turbo cars can cause the spark to "blow out" and not ignite the gas as well.

Import guys buy them because they look cool.

I think I remember reading some of Gadget's comments on this subject. Apparently he considered doing it but was told that the ignition system that comes on 3rd gen runners is one of the best stock systems available. Gadget was told that it was not necessary to upgrade the ignition system because it is so good. Do a search over on the OW board... the thread was pretty recent, within the last week or 2 I believe.

Got a little behind on posting on here but got the block and down other parts back from the machine shop.

Hammered black valve cover

Block bored .020 over and cleaned

Crankshaft ground .020 main .020 rod

New rod bushings and rods cleaned

Stainless steel freeze plugs

Ok so I got the crank in but I have a problem..the crank won't turn, turns slightly when cap bolts aren't Torqued all the way. Anyone know what's causing this?

One of these things is not like the other, hahaha. Our stock ignition system works great all the way to at least 14psi... that's as far as I've personally taken it anyway, but I'll bet it would be fine up to 20+. No need to upgrade anything!
