Oops, bent my power antenna

While following my son on his dirt bike, I managed to bend my power antenna mast on my '94 xTraCab. I had ordered this part from Perf. Prod. about 3 years ago. I called them last week to order a replacement mast, but they didn't even sell the antenna anymore.

I read somewhere that I might be able to get one from my Toyota dealer. I pulled the broken mast out yesterday and will trot into the parts counter tomorrow.

Questions --
Does anyone know how to put this back together?

Does anyone have a part number or other info? Thanks

This should be all there is to it:

-turn your radio on
-feed the plastic teeth down into the antenna hole (it is important to remember which way the teeth were facing when you took the old mast out)
-turn the radio off, the plastic teeth and mast should be pulled into the antenna mounting hole
-voila

Hope that is all clear enough. Sorry, I don't have the part number handy here at school.

Is the PP antenna a Toyota OEM product? If not, you may need to relace the whole unit. Good luck.

Mudbone,

Check out my write up. Althought the application is for a 98 4runner, it might give you some insight into how to go about replacing it, etc.

Shoot. Of course, I didn't think of that when I pulled it out. I'll see if I can recall when I look at the broken mast. I seem to rermember the curl going counter-clockwise as I pulled.

Thanks.

Switch

Maybe you should switch to a fixed mast. I broke my power one 2 times before I changed to a fixed mast. Yours is probably the same as mine. I'll see if I can dig up a PN. It only cost $25 or so.

The gasket is a good bit smaller on the fixed mast. Nothing a little rubbing compond won't cure.

Well, believe it or not, I had replaced a broken fixed-mast unit with the powered one! My original got broken (down inside the fender) while running through the car wash. Maybe I'll go back to the drawing board.

Mast

I'm probably going to replace my mast with the S2000 Honda Rubber antenna. I keep catching my current mast on stuff. The S2000 one is only about a foot long!! There is a writeup somewhere on here or through a link listed here.

the power anntenea mast from toy dealers isnt that expensive at al , and it only took me about 15 mintues to replace the one on my t-100 after getting it cught in some rather large branches . i think it cost maybe 20 bucks total. if you cant remember which direction the teeth went jsut keep turning it as the power is turned off , it will catch eventually . it might take a couple of times of turning it on and off , but be paitent, it will work .
