Old Man Emu or Sonoran Steel?

You can actually order a diff drop from Toytec lift systems or Sonoran Steel has them (where I got mine) too. I think they run about $50 bucks...
As Crolison said, extending the rear brake line would be good idea too. Any articulation in the rear end could overstretch and tear it.
I'm running OME890s in the rear of mine and didn't bother but I don't do anything too extreme, mostly light to medium trails.

I pieced my lift together as well and love it. Up front: 3" lift with OME 882 coils and OME N91SC comfort valved shocks. Out back: 3.75" lift with the shorter LC coils and junk Rancho shocks (soon to be replaced with OME's). Add in a front diff drop and I was out the door for ~$600 complete. The ride is firm and controlled on and off road and my setup works great on trails, in the mud and for normal street driving.

I did the 890s with 10MM trim packers in the rear. The only thing I had to do was extend the panhard bar about a 1/2 inch because my passenger wheels was sticking out ever so slightly more than the driver's side and it was bothering me. Other than that it was a breeze doing the rear coil swap.

I had toytech put an OME kit together for me. if you call them they will help you figure anything out, it doesnt have to be just whats on their site. They swapped out the 4runner ome coils for the longer FJ cruiser coils in my kit. I have a little over 3.5" with stock brake lines and I have gone on some very tough trails with full articulation and never had a problem. This is also my DD and I think the ride is great. Ive never used SS, but for my money im completely happy with OME for a coilover setup.

Im in the same situation. I want the lift and to haul some weight. But I dont have $1200 for nickle plated gear. I wish Sonoran had more options on shocks.
For you guys that went the Fj80 coil path - did you buy two of the same side coils? Or one left one right?
I was looking at the Sonoran site and the coils in his picture of the 1.2 kit are the same.
I thought one was taller than the other?
I have toyota part numbers for the coils, just still doing research before buying.
Thanks.

I believe I went with the 3" OME kit from toytec...

And i'm very happy with it. Even though it is lifted the ride is a lot better and more stable. Highway and city handling has improved 2x as much, literally. I went with this and then pieced together the shocks and diff. drop from SS. Didn't get the panhard drop bar...didn't need it either. My budget was limited at the time but i think that is the best bang for the buck...everything came out to be around 650 if i remember correctly. I would highly recommend installing it yourself, although I didn't have the tools, experience, or space to do it I still managed the install myself and it has helped me understand a lot. If something breaks, this way I know what it is and how to fix it.
SS is probably the "best" kit you can buy but everything is a trade-off between price and performance...

after researching the OME and SS kits i went with the SS 1.2 rear. Im doin the TC long travel kit up front. And I am very geared toward off road ability than on road. From what i have read IMO it is mostly said that OME provides A better ride and the SS kits are geared more towards off roading while keeping a good ride. I'd say go with the SS kit. but thats just my Opinion. i have not even got the kit in the mail yet. should be here i a day or two. the SS kits are more because u get more than just shocks and coils (im just talkin about the rear), with the SS kit u get extended brake lines adjustable panhard bar bump stops brake line brackets..... you pay more but u get more

I like the SS. The OME kits were developed for the LC Prado, not the 4Runner. While they share frame elements, the weight distribution and other geometry is different with the 4Runner. Suspension is too important not to do 100% right if you spend time off pavement, IMHO.

To be fair, the SS kits with the exception of the 3.0 kit are not 4Runner specific components either. I.e Tundra coils, LC coils, Tacoma shocks...

I'm not knocking the OME
, but I've ridden in both and wheel the SS 1.2 and I prefer the SS 1.2 better both at speed through FSR pot holes and washboards and on technical terrain (just feels 'flexier').

"But the rear sways and cables are bracketed and the lat rod adjusted to maintain geometry..."
Sooo couldn't somebody just buy/fab the sways & cables and put them on the OME lift? Still would be saving $400, and not have a rake...don't get me wrong, I'd like the extra rake, bilsteins, etc. I'd love to buy the 1.2, but like I've told people before...I can't find this damn tree...the one with money all over it.
That's just my question for this topic. I'm in a hole on what to purchase as well...and this hole is deep, and I have no lift for it.

I run the SS 1.2 kit on my 4runner, and I love it. I found the rear a little too soft for my liking on the street, so I installed some airbags (inside to coils) now with 5-7 psi in the bags it is great. Also another word of advice if you go with the SS 1.2, for the front Billstiens do not go with the highest lift grove on the struts (about 2.5"), the ride is a bit harsh over bumps as the shocks dont have much down travel, so you hit a bump hard and the shock "tops out", so I would reccomend the next lowest setting.
Bilstiens are the best shock i have ever had on any of my trucks, i wouldnt go with anything else!!!

SS1.2 kit shows two of the same coils (white+purple+grey) - is that the correct way to set up or I need one left side one right side coils ( different color code)
Also will the stock rear fj80 shocks work on the rear of the 4runner with these springs?
Thanks
