Over the past few weeks, I suddenly seem to have oil coming out of every seal on my engine, throttle body and supercharger. When I took the supercharger off, there was a bunch of oil buildup inside it. The pictures below show what I found in the intake under the supercharger. Lots of oil and sludge buildup. Is this normal?

I also noticed a new path of oil dripping down the clutch housing, and seems to be coming from the passenger side rear of the engine, near the exhaust. It looks like it's seaping from the head gasket area. I just went over 200K on this motor, so it's probably time for some overhauling. I should have the rebuilt supercharger back tomorrow. Thoughts on what else I should look at?

 

I dont think a supercharged motor with 200k is a god idea. The carbon build up is normal but oil I would think piston rings. How does it run? maybe take a compression test. Im not 100% sure on all that but I think it could be

 

Blow by (bad rings) will result in positive crank case pressure, thus air/oil going through the PCV into the intake...

Positive crank case pressure will also increase the chances of every seal and gasket to leak that is in contact with the crankcase/intake

 

Thanks for the replies. The weird thing is that it runs like a champ. I've never had any problems with the power and I drive from 5K' to 9K' back and forth to work every day. It also doesn't consume oil, which if it was blow-by I would expect to see some loss on the dipstick. Although maybe it's just gotten worse lately, but it hasn't been long enough for me to notice on the oil level yet.

 

what type of oil do you run and what weight (just curious) also have you tried using AUTO RX? if not i would alteast try it... it wont cure the issues but it may help. 200k and bad ring with a yota just seems hard to swallow (though you are SC'd)

 

you have a blown engine gasket or bad rings or both. exhaust gas is pushing oil up the pcv valve.

 

Could a clogged cat also cause positive crank pressure? I have been worried that my cat is not flowing like it should and when I tore down the engine to replace my valve cover gaskets a few weeks ago, my intake looked similar and I even had a little oil in the throttle body. I have no other oil leaks besides the valve covers gaskets, which I replaced.

 

I have seen worse than that from intakes.Usually from a restriction in the PVC system,especially if seals are starting to leak as well.Usually if the motor is not smoking from exhaust I would not worry about the lower end..I would double check any sludge build up in the baffels of the valve covers,pvc valve,pcv hose and manifold port for pvc for blockage.Clean them up,run some cleaner through the oil,change the oil.....Drive on

 

I've been running the Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 since I purchased it at 120K miles. I haven't tried running anything through the engine yet, but it would be something to consider.

It's been cold and snowy up here in the mountains lately, so tearing into the engine for a major overhaul right now doesn't sound like a great time!

 

monitor your coolant for oil
and your oil for coolant

you should be able to get by

taste (then spit out ) moisture from the exhaust, if it is sweet, engine
is going to grenade

 

sounds like it needs a good cleaning. pcv valve replacement.. amsoil is a hard oil to gum up. its pretty good stuff.. i would run an Auto RX treatment on top of everything else. ( it helps clean and release gummed up parts in the motor) one of the very few i trust. the other option is BG's products

 

May try sea foam as well, although i personally dont like sucking stuff through a vaccum line it may clean up some of that build up in your intake manifold. Im currenly tring auto rx in my 3.4L since running Amsoil most of its life.
