'tis an input shaft seal on there
not 100% sure on the process of replacing it, BUT I'll be doing mine soon since my motor's out for rebuild
My mess IS from the rear main though; I'm just going to replace the trans seal as assurance, so I don't have to separate the motor and trans later just to replace a $5 seal, lol

the clutch wasn't coated like the bellhousing, but there was a thin layer all over everything accept for the friction surfaces

oh just because his sig says he has a 96 taco doesn't mean he's working on one right?
take another look at the pic diff on the wrong side. you should know its not a taco but a 86-95 ifs truck or 4runner.

Thanks for all the advice. It is actually my 89 4runner I'm doing the clutch on. Did the rear main seal today. I didn't do the gasket that goes behind the seal cover. Is this necessary? Icouldn't get it off despite the oil pain bolts out and the 5 bolts in front. Also, how hard is it to do the front seal on the trani in case in case that is where the oil is comiing from? Last question, how do I know which way the clutch disc goes in...does it matter? Are the scallped edges supposed to face a certain way?
Thanks!
Thanks!
