I did a search before posting and didn’t find any answers besides what I have already did. I have had this 4Runner for about 2 months and the mentioned lights have not worked since I have had it. I didn’t even know the glove box had a light until I read someone else’s post.

I had the dash apart this past weekend to check the bulbs and all are fine, or at least look that way. All fuses in all 3 places are good. The cigarette lighter itself works. I know the lights to the cigarette lighter ring and ash tray is on the same plug and the glove box light is on its own plug. All other dash/stereo/map/dome lights work. Any ideas on where to start looking or what the problem could be? It’s not a big issue; I would just like all the lights to work.

Are the bulbs bad? I would check the plugs with a test light and see if they are getting power and go from there.

 

As i said in my post, all fuses were good,bulbs looked fine. I will try with a test light, but I would wonder why they wouldnt get power.

 

EOD3O, Those bulbs look good even when they are not, test for power and if you want check the bulbs for resistance. If you find it's the bulb (which usually is the case) make sure you replace the little green rubber protective boot(reduces vibration and extends bulb life). Also make sure the light switch is on, good luck.

 

Yea, when I bought an 89 pickup years back I had to replace about 4 bulbs and only one of them actually looked burnt out. They are so small, you need a microscope to tell visually. If the test light shows power then the bulbs are it.

Well, turns out it was the bulbs :pat: . I guess thinking that it would be that easy; I talked myself out of trying that first. BTW, I replaced all three, ash tray, cig lighter ring and glove box. Bulbs are Sylvania 37, $2.48 for 2 at Advance Auto parts

 

Let there be light! Glad you got that taken car of. Those bulbs are spendy suckers. I think I paid $2.50 each at the dealership for mine.

 

Newbie Here: What happened to my heater control backlights?

Worked most of the day installing new stereo in my '94/2WD/Base Model/Toy Truck. When I swapped out the OEM radio to the new unit, I noticed there was one single wire connected to a 5 conductor multi-plug, plugged into the back of the OEM radio. I pulled this plug out and had no idea what it's function was, since all the other wires in the other multi-plug covered: speakers, direct battery power, ground, accesory power, etc. After putting everything back together I now have no backlighting on the a/c-heater controls panel. I got the truck from a buddy, so I don't know if the cigaretta lighter is supposed to light up since it is the base model. The heater control backlight was working before I made the conversion. Sure wish there was a moderately priced radio/CD that would utilize the original connection so that I would know if I screwed up or bulbs suddenly blew out.
