New Used Runner!

After 1000 kilometers, many hours, 85 coffees and untold frustrations, I have found, and bought, a replacement for my rolled '91

It's also a 91, 3.0, 5 spd with 170,000 kilometers (about 100k miles), new paint, tires, body panels, battery, etc. Power everything (no sunroof), certified and emissions tested, CLEAN...no rust, no accidents....$6000 (about $4300 US). I'm really liking it, as it runs as nice as my previous ride. Best of all, Toyota confirms that Camapign 802 (V06 in US) Headgasket/Cylinder Head Replacement, IS STILL OPEN!!!!!!!!

Pics are here:

I'll post more after I pick it up Sunday

PS: Let me know if the link doesn't click

Congrats on your new Runner! It must be killing you that you still have a couple of more days before pick up. I always hate waiting.

First mods will be to swap the Aisins from the carcass, which I bought from the salvage company. Next will be to modify that slider tube to ensure the rockers are protected. The sig will change when I actually receive the rig! As for painting the RANS...I'm not so sure I want my aircraft all black...I like to fly very low (under 1000' usually) and while you CAN be seen from below, it's very hard to be seen from above, where everyone else is flying. And after being the recipient of a free engine from Toyota once already I'm waiting for the heads to just about melt down before I take it in. I just got the recipt today from the last job....47.5 hours labour...3 sets of head gaskets...oh, and that free engine...they could have just bought me a new truck...may have been cheaper!

If anyone is interested, I will be removing several minor parts from the carcass in the next couple of weeks and I will have a rear tire carrier for sale...the new runner already has one!

Nice looking truck mate
Glad to see you got one so fast. Looks like it has the rear tire carrier aswell. I love mine, much better than having it underneath.

That I got one "so fast" was a function of HOURS and HOURS on the internet scouring for ads (Autotrader.ca) and literally DAYS of cruising the used car dealers in Toronto. I must have visited 100 lots, easy. Mostly what I saw was automatics. Any 5 spds were 4 cylinders. I almost gave up on finding what I wanted and was getting ready to buy an automatic. On Thursday I was getting ready to buy a different runner at a dealer, when I stopped to get the recent issue of Autotrader. And about 15 pages in, there it was. Drove through the morning rush hour on Highway 401 for about 90 mins. to Misissauga. After driving it I was pretty sure, but when I called Toyota from my cellphone and confirmed the head gasket campaign was still open I KNEW it was the one And "NO" I did not tell the seller about the free engines. He's not a wheeler. However, in my travels I DID tell many about the HG issue and one guy is getting his done Friday. Of all the runners I saw, about 1/3 were still open. Word of advice toanyone looking at used 2nd Gens...bring a cellphone and call Toyota to ask about open campaigns

When the engine recall thing is done they usually stick a sticker down by the vin on the drivers side with the mileage it was done at but yes most of the time you do have to call.

Nice catch but the pics aren't working now.
On another not I used to live in Misissauga years and years ago when I lived in Canada.

Exclamation Blair I've got a shopping list...

Congrats again on the new ride I took a look last night anyway and there are several on the danforth with v6 and 5spd 4door there to be seen. A couple at Zoom at warden/danforth and a couple at Emo's a liittle further west. The 2 at Emo's are 95's and I think the ones at Zoom are a mix of 2 & 3 gens (I could'nt get close to them they were behind a fence . As to my shopping list I might want the front seats and center console as I've previously mentioned and come to think of it if the rims are still true... If you could e:mail me or PM me we could maybe get together and I could see before I buy. You still live near the airport famous for buttertarts don't you? Talk to you soon Aviator
