New guy SteveS

Hi everyone, Ive been lurking around here for a few months now. Bajataco sent me. I done a little posting, so I figured I should do a little intro about my rig.

2001 Tacoma 4X4TRD with a snugtop shell. I'm mainly a desert explorer, not a hard core anything. I try to lean towards comfort, so my wife will go with me exploring, camping, traveling around the southwest. It has Sway-a-way lift, and 265/75-16 BFG AT's

A few mods I've made are: ARB air comp, Co2 tank, I have a 6gal water tank with elec. pump, dual battery with Isolator, fan-filter box to keep dust out of my shell and camp gear, Norcold Frig. and the basic stuff like all of you have; 2 meter, CB, A-pillar gages (trans & engine oil temp), Altimeter, compass, GPS, level gauge, inside outside temps, hand throttle, extened vent tubes, roof rack. De Mello rock sliders, and basic back counrty gear. Oh yea I did that great full time power out-let mod (shameless plug)

I love talking about mods, things to see in the deserts , camping, etc. Feel free to email me anytime.

My wife and I like to explore too! Sounds like a Southwest wheeling trip is on the horizon as soon as the temps drop!

Welcome! Yeah, puts some pics up when you get a chance.

Nice mod list Newbie! My wife and I used to do alot of exploring of the Northeast prior to our gang joing us (3 kids). They are almost old enough for us to get back to it.

We have a camping trip planned for the end of the summer. My oldest (4 1/2) has been camping once before - when he was 7 months old. Time to break in his younger brothers!!

How big is that fridge? Does it draw alot of current?

I was surprised not to see the hot water shower thingie on your list of mods...

modest: ha ha I get it. I like that, but it took me a minute If I need a new handle, I may use that.

My old frig was a small older Norcold Frig only unit. But it still works and has lasted for years bumping around inside a 4X4.

My new Norcold http://www.norcold.com/acdc_mrft60.cfm came yesterday via UPS and is BIG. I could turn my Taco into an icecream truck

The draw isn't bad, my old unit ran 26 hours without the truck running and the frig still was keeping things cool (this was a test in my driveway). BUT if you run it off you starting battery, I'd keep a close eye on it. The frig is the #1 reason I installed the aux. battery, which is an Excide AGM Deep cycle. The new frig data plate says something like 5.5 amps @ 12V, which is a little misleading since the unit only cycles on for a short time (1-2 min) the is off (4-6 min) but outside air temp and frig setting changes this cycle time.
