New Bed

I have an 87 Toy 4X4, I just got a rust free bed off an 86. I am going to have a spray in bedliner. I was thinking of applying bondo or some other material to the inside of the bed, to stop the rust from happening again. Is there any problems with doing this. I live in a state that uses lots of salt. I was thinking of getting this bed undercoated, but the body/paint shop advises against it. Any comments/ ideas are welcome. Thanks, Rick

So are you saying that you're going to have bondo between the bed and the bedliner of this rust-free 86 bed?

I would think that the bedliner would provide adequate protection from rust... maybe you'd want to put that bondo underneath?

if the bed is rust free then the spray in bedliner will keep it from rusting....on the inside anyway....

Yeah I was thinking of the lip underneath, where water, mud and other assundrey items seem to accumulate.

I'm just wondering why the body/paint shop suggests you don't have it undercoated?

Just have the spray in bed liner applied to the whole thing. Then you don't have to worry about rust of any kind on the bed.
