Question New Antenna

So my antenna motor is broken, big surprise. I have the write up to replace
the power antenna with a Taco antenna.

A while back someone posted a pic of a short rubber looking antenna.

I was thinking about using that instead.

Where can I get one of those? Or should I just use the Taco antenna?

Thanks.

A word of warning, those short stubby antenna's significantly reduce range.

Look on ebay, there are some there.

They will reduce your range, and they look dorky! IMO..

Reducing range huh? That doesnt sound too promising.

If I put the Taco antenna on, can I still go through an automated car wash and not worry about the antenna getting destroyed?

You should be ok, however I would keep a removal tool with you.

Automated carwash? Please tell me it's touch free!

I installed the Taco antenna on my Dad's '96 4Runner. Unfortunately, he uses the auto car washes all the time. He has never removed his antenna prior to washing it, and it is fine.

Christian, my mom uses a brush carwash on her 02 Lexus ES300, it just kills me that she does it. I have tried to lecture her on how its bad for the paint, but she won't listen. I guess I will have to take the car away from her!

Oh no Travis, you're killing me!

Surely there is a touch free in SLC?

I always go to the ones that you pump in the quarters and use the power hose and stuff.

But, here in Austin there is a place called Genie Car Wash and on your birthday you get a free car wash. With my birthday being at the end of January, I dont want to get out in the cold and do it myself.
