nerf bars

Hey all,
Ok, my original running boards are cracking and need replacement. I was wondering on installing nerf bars instead or maybe another running board. There's so many companies that make these and was wondering if anybody has changed their boards and can give me feedback. I'm looking for chrome. Thanks.

Thumbs up

I have had Smittybilts for about 5 or 6 years. Mine rusted a bit and I repainted them this past winter. They look like new now. These work great for my wife and kids to climb in and out of the rig - I just bypass them. They look good though.

When I had mine, I got them from my local Central 4WD store.
They have good prices.

Look in our Vendor section, their listing is in there.

Can't help you there. Mine replaced my factory running boards that got mashed in an accident. My body shop "worked with me" to get them on. I got the pair for the cost of 1 factory running board - at least that's what he told me...

Don't do it!

Don't get the Smitty's. If you are ever planning on taking your truck off road, I recommend against it. For what I paid for mine, it was about 1/2 what a pair of rock sliders cost. See what happens when you take your Smittybuilt Sure Step nerf bars off road? It is pretty nasty what might happen.

Cool

I was just getting ready to ask....What would happen if you rubbed up against something...Now i see.

I'm definetly not getting smitty's, but i am however getting a pair of Manik..Any opinions of Maniks?,
If they are all the same crap then why do they even make nerf bars anyway?..maybe i'll fill em with concrete before i install them , just to be on the safe side.

Most all nerf bars are of equal quality.
The Smittybilt Sure Steps I had and sold to a member here are of high quality.
Not rust or chips are a few years on the rig.

But they are not made for slamming up against stuff.
If all you are going to do with them is use them for steps for washing the rig, getting in and out, they are fine.

But they are made out of basically big exhaust tubing, and will bend.

If you go off road with them and whack 'em, expect them to bend inward or upwards.

If you don't off road much, they are fine.

If it helps, I paid $200 for the Smitt's a few years back at Central 4WD.
They have good prices, and will match others or beat 'em.

I guess that is a good deal. My buddy had the factory nerf bars on his.... uh.... explorer, and a Genuine Steel welded one piece grille guard which he purchased 2 months ago. Well he went to Jeff at Badland Bumpers and had a set of his sliders made and installed. He is heading out that way right now to pick up his front tube winch bumper! To each his own, right? I told him that he should get rid of it, and get a Toyota!

Donc, Badland's is a real blessing for those of us here in the PNW, and he now ships too.

I found his link on www.wattora.com last May, and had my sliderz built and installed within a few weeks.

You will see pics of mine & seafarinman's rig on there.
He builds stuff that is tough and will hold up.

Jeff himself is a hardcore wheeler, and has been making great stuff for quite awhile.
You can even get a SAS done at his shop.
