Needs Power!!!

i just testdrove a 92 4runner today. omg i couln't believe how underpowerd that V6 was. i dont' see why more ppl don't go right for the 3.4 swap. that is kinda my quesiton why don't more ppl go for the swap? How much power can the stock drivetrain handle? if i put the 3.4 in and supercharge it would i need to replace it? and why don't more ppl make there 4runners cruisers instead of offroaders i think they would look phatty with some rims and lowerd like 3 inches. can someone shed some light on peoples thinking please.

Well, personaly, I don't mind the ammount of power my little 3.0 has, it's always done alright for me, even on high speed highways. One reason I can think of not to do the 3.4 swap is cost.. can't help ya with the drivetrain question.. but "why don't more ppl make there 4runners cruisers instead of offroaders" because thats not what they were made for? just look at it.. oh well thats only my opinion.

engine swap idea:

are you going to pay for my swap? if so, please tell me and i'll tell you my phone number so we can get this ball rolling

lowering the car:

umm... no. a 4runner is an offroading truck.... you lower it and put 20's on that truck... and you just removed the BALLS from that truck.

I love my 4runner with 15 inch rims and 31 inch tires.... even though its only a 4x2 i still run it into the ground and it just keeps on taking it.

I dont think my 3.0 is all that much of a dog. The 5spd is night and day. If you want a fast suv buy something else. The 3.0 has a ton of torque just not high end hp. Im very happy with it and I used to own a 3.4.

Ditto here, the 3.0 gets me moving down the highway.
Granted it doesn't have the power or speed of my '68 327 small block Chevelle I had back in '75, but then I don't need to have power at my age anymore

I outgrew the need for speed over 20 years ago.

As for the answer to why folk's make their rigs into off roaders, that is what they were intended for.

They are not a unibody vehicle like a car.
They are a true truck with a body mounted on top of a truck chassis.

To see Toyotas in their natural habitat, watch this 24.2 mb video.

Best to right click and save, then watch.

how much does a 3.4 swap cost ball park and can the drivetrain handle the power if you supercharge it? also is there a big difference in accel if you get a 2 door vs. a 4 door? i know they are intended to be offroad monsters but you have to agree that if you lowerd one like 2 inches and put some 22's on it and full tint with brush gaurd bumpin system and a supercharges 3.4 custom interior and neons that would be phatty. what are your comments on that? also i wanna do soemthing that not alot of ppl have done i mean everybody has jacked them up i hate to say it but it is becoming like a "civic" everyone and there mm has one for all the people that own them.

If you want a "phatty" truck, one that you can lower, chrome up, neon accent and all that, get a "truck" that was meant to do it. Maybe you and your friends might think it's cool, but if you're a true 4runner owner, you'll do the opposite. They are meant for the off road, they are built for the offroad, they will be sen on the off road. Try an escalade or a navigator or an explorer, a "SUV" that was designed for comfort and gravel driveways if you want to sink it to the ground. Sorry man, im not with you on ghettorigging the 4runner. A man and his truck, it's a beautiful thing.

You won't find many people (if any) with short trucks on this forum, nor will you find anybody too enthusiastic about taking a truck and castrating it by making it drag across the ground. Most of our trucks are at least an inch above stock height, so we're probably not the people to talk to if you want to "Phat out" your vehicle. If you want to build a chromed bottom-out machine, get an old Jimmy or Explorer and have at it, but I beg of you, don't do it to a Yota!

Hmm, and my 3.0 V6 has plenty of get up and go, if I want to use it. Sure the 3.4's are nice, but if you want one, get a truck that has one in it already! Conversions are not cheap!

To answer some of your original questions in this post:

The 3.4 swap: There have been a varios posts on this subject in this form. Check out these

About making a 4runner a cruiser, I dont know much about what goes into doing that. Most of what I know is making my Toyota better Off-Road. And most of the information that I know, I have learned from the YotaTech community.

And I don't want to speak for the group, however I do belive that most people on this fourm would rather keep thier truck stock, or make it higher, as opposed to lowering the vechile for crusing only.

But I'm sure that there will be someone who can amswer you question.

I like my power , but I spent quite a few bills to get it. Would I do it again? There are a few things I'd change, but you bet.

ya well i have a 2wd tacoma thats built for speed and stuff like that-- honestly, if your going to change the 3.0 for a 3.4 and supercharge it, just get the entire drivetrain from the 3.4, that way you could change the whole system and wont have to worry about busting anything. I have the manual transmission, but if I had the auto, I would probably have to change the whole damn thing like gadget did on his website.

JL,
With the money you payout to put a 3.4 in the 2nd Gen, you would be better off just buying an early 3rd gen 2wd.
Since you plan on lowering it, you obviously wont be needing 4wd, plus, it would probably be harder to lower that way.
2wds are cheaper anyway.

As far as stuff to G-Pimp it out, there probably wont be much, since 90% of mods made for 4Runners are off-road mods. Im not saying you cant, but the demand for parts like that isnt there, and it'll be a big hassle trying to do it.

But maybe you should get in touch with this guy. He probably has tha hook up.

Also, the guys over at Custom Tacos...
http://www.customtacos.com/
...just might be able to help you with your phatty dreams. (they pimp out Tacomas, but probably are generally knowledgable about Toyotas)

Just because you want to go lower and most people on here want go higher doesn't mean their isn't common ground in the performance/interior/exterior mods...

My 3.0 has has gotten me 2 speeding tickets in less than 2 years and it is an auto. If you kick it in the butt it will move you. Not to mention it has amazing reliability, durability etc...

As far as making a 4runner " bling bling" of "phat" I would like to point out, IT"S AN SUV!!!!! MAKE FOR HAULING DIRTY AND GROSS STUFF AND PEOPLE THROUGH THE MUD AND SNOW AND STUFF. Put your chrome "dubs" on POS Ford or some old mid 70's pimp-mobile. Keep the suv's either stock or taller. 'nuf said.

phatty 4runner

The funniest thing I've ever seen was a lowered honda passport. The funny part wasn't that it was lowered,it was that it had step rails 1 ft off the ground. Not my cup-o-joe,but to each his own.Rock on dude,it's your ride, have a ball!
