Need tranny advice

Hello Yota folks. I recently purchased a 98 4runner (about a year now) and love it! Noticed it having some issues. It seems to not catch gear until 2-2500rpm once in awhile after I put it in drive. So I checked the fluid and it's still pink which was change 1 1/2 year ago. What could it be? Is it a sensor? I keep hearing from people to change the fluid but wanted to hear your advice first. Any help is greatly appreciated. It's a 2WD limited.

It could be a bad shift solenoid, or the tranny might just be wearing out and on it's last leg. Usually, changing the fluid is the 1st and least expensive step and many times that solves the problem. Are you sure the fluid isn't just low? That could also cause rough shifting.

Checked the fluid level a dozen times and its the same. I'll change the fluids and see what happens. How long does a tranny last? I bought it from the original owner and took very good care of it. has 195K but on a full rebuild. Hopefully just that or solenoid. Thanks.

Can't hurt to flush the ATF; certainly cheaper than having it opened up right off the bat.
