Hey im knew to this site and toyotas in general. I just recently purchased a 2001 4runner sr5. I need some help on what size tires would fit on it w/o having to put on a lift. Do you think i could fit a 30 or 31 inch tire on it. My last rig had 31 inch super swampers, but i am looking for something a little smaller and less agressive. Any suggestion?

 

The Yokohoma Geolandar A/T's are sweet, but, most people seem to like the Bridgestone Revo's and BFG KO's.

As for mud terrains the Goodyear MTR's have had good reviews.

You can probably stick a 265/75/R16 (~31-32") w/o a lift.

 

Yeah... 265/75/R16 is a good choice... as for brand what is your intent for the truck. If you were running swampers before i would guess that wheeling is a hobby of yours.

The Firestone desenation MT is a very populair choice around here, although I have no experience with these the guys running them seem happy...

The goodyear MTR is a good one too... They tend to get loud with time...

I was VERY happy with my Interco Trxus MTs... they were great on road, great off road, and were wearing well when I sold them. Wish I had kept them now... I switched to a TSL, and for the small gain offroad, I took a big hit off road. I was also to by my tire supplier at work that they were seeing longer life from these, than the MTR and the BFG muds.... I would recomend these in a heartbeat!!!

I also like the look of the cooper STT... looks a little like an MTR and the price is good too....

MT/R's are not good in the mud. they are good for off roading, but not the mud, they are not a mud tire, the "M" does not stand for mud, it means somehting else. dont trust me? then search.

they are still classified as mud terrains by most people though.

 

Thanks for all the feedback it realy does help. Here is another question for yall my runner has the running boards still on it, is it difficult to take them off? I looked at them and it seems like its just a couple of bolts.

 

Yeah it's just a few bolts. Socket wrench and elbow grease is all you need. And some glasses. (you'll thank me later)

 

i second that glasses part, or you might get dirt in your eyes.....
and on the first question, 265/75/16 will fit nice.

 

Bridgestone Revo's

 

I have 265/75/16 Bridgestone Revo tires that fit just about perfectly, they rubbed a little to begin with but I sawed down part of the mud flaps and they are great now. They are the best tires money can buy, a little expensive I know but they are worth it. I barely ever need 4wd anymore unless I'm in some serious ÅÅÅÅ.I paid just under 700 for them, would have done it another 700 times too, great tires and really accent my truck!

 

just got about 6-8 inches of snow today. my wife drives my runner alot more than i do so tonight is the first time i got to take it out with the new revo's on it. they are a 100% differance than my stock goodyear wrangler rt/s. revo's are now on my top 5 list for tires.

 

i have owned bfg all terrains, dunlop rover rv's, bfg mudders, and yokohoma's geolander a/t's and the yokohoma's have been the best for me they have a long road life,not loud, great for off roading i would go for the yokohoma's

 

the flintstone's stone tires are better than the crappy wrangler rt/s.

another vote for revos. great on road and off, though im not sure if they'd survive harsh, sharp, jagged rocks

I had 265/75/16s on my '01 with no lift, and everything fit fine. I would personally reccomend the BFG AT, it has worked very very well on and off road for me. No complaints at all, the sidewalls seem to be tough as nails, and the tread is not overly aggressive but gets the job done. Good luck, and post some pics when you get it done.

 

hey, just got Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revos. Their not the #1 rated tire for nothing(www.tirerack.com). They are $ though.

My vote is still for MTR's..

 

Ive owned nothing but BFG Mud Terrain and All Terrain tires and have put them through some real torture tests, and they always do great.

And they look good, too.

 

I bought Toyo Open Country AT's and really like them. They are far less expensive in price from the Revos and are very quiet on the road.
