Need help with 96 LC...its really quiet on the LC board
Just looked at a high mileage (150,000 plus) 96 Cruiser.
Oil on front of sump and it really looks like it may be coming from front seal but I cannot see due to rock guard. Its obviously leaked a while as its back along sump toward t/case.
It may just be what dropped out of the filter on the last change but I would have thought it would have gone by now.
The guy wants very reasonable money and I really need to get back to him soon...anyone got any LC experience ???
Thanks
(if you have to move the post, please do but let it run for a while to get some view time...thx)

things are tanks. never really see anything go wrong with the lx450's at work. I am sure the front end needs to be serviced (wipers and seals). The AC lines go bad if it has rear AC. They are 400k mile trucks, just gotta keep up with the maintenance.

go to www.ih8mud.com
They have a great FAQ about the 80s. It should answer/ address almost all issues with the 80. Those guys are great and no their stuff

Ok,
Seems 99% certain that its either pan arch seal (my guess judging by where its coming from) and/or front main.
It seems high mileage 1Z's always leak from above locations plus rear pan arch seal and sometimes rear main. No biggie as long as you top up and don't mind the odd spot. Seems most folks don't fix it unless ther is something else they need to do.
I really should check the compressions as I will would want to add the SC.

There are a few things you need to pay attention on those truck. The most important thing is the cooling system. If the cooling system is not properly maintain, you will have a risk of head gasket problem. Check and see if the coolant is in good condition? do this test, drive the car for a while. then pop the coolant reservoir, keep the hose below the coolant level and see if there is any bubble. If there is bubble, the HG is gone, and you will have an expensive repair bill. The leak you mention is kinda common, the best way to check where the leak comes from is to spray all the oil away by using the brake cleaner, then idle or drive it and you should see where it leak. Mine has the rear main seal leaked and a bit from the front as well. But the Shell Rotella full sysn might stop the leak, mine did stop after I change it to the Rotella syan for 3k miles. And the LC80 also consume oil, mine consume like 1 to 2 quarts every 2k miles. hope this help. Ohh yea, is a good idea to rebuild your birfield once you got it, I just did mine. Messy messy thing!!
Let me know if you need any other info. Good luck!!
