Need advice quick. Please help!

Guys-

I have an opportunity to sell my truck. The buyer is going to give me $17K.

My truck:

1998 Tacoma Limited V6 4x4, 53,200 mi, Auto, basically every option except ABS.

All my mods would come off.

This will allow me to get what I really want, a 97/98 5 speed 4Runner.

This is really tough. I love my truck, but it is just a machine, and it would help my wife and I knock our debt down to just mortgage.

My question is this: Is $17K a good deal to me?

I bought it for $18K in Dec of 99 [edit: Dec of 00]. So I am pretty sure I know what you guys are going to say. Please help me feel better about this!

Thanks to all!

$1000 depreciation in 3 years of ownership???

If you have any intention of selling it at all, DO IT, because you're not going to find another buyer like this.

Sorry, I meant December of 00. But, you are right another buyer wont come along like this anytime soon.

It makes me feel better to think about 4Runners...

Decisions, decisions....

I totally agree. $1000 depreciation in 2 years even. A heck of a deal. Go for it! Sell it quick before he changes his mind.

Sell it...

Life is to short.......... Buyers like that are rare!!!

Sell it, and get what you want! Join the Club, get a 4runner.

You should be able to pick up a 96-97 for 12000 to 15000!

I'd do it. Only a Toyota owner could drive a 4x4 for 2 yrs and only lose 1k. What kind of bath do you think a Ford or Dodge man would take??
The car lots around here are LOADED w/ 1998 Ford Expeditions for 14 to 16k. What were they new????? 38k? They cant give em away here.
Drive what you want, life is short.

That sounds like a decent price. With the low mileage like that, it sounds like the best deal for both you and the buyer. You wouldn't find many people willing to pay more than that, so I would say go for it. Think of it this way, you will get a 4runner which will still be a good vehicle, and someone else is now going to have the pleasure of owning a toyota. That's my opinion.

P.S. --- I asked you about the electric fans, I don't know if you got my message, but I was curious about the flex-a-lite fans. I have a '97 tacoma, and have wanted electric fans for a while. If you could write back here with some info on them, or start a new thread, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Electric Fans

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I will keep y'all posted on how it goes this afternoon.

Since I have been asked about the electric fans (sorry I missed my PM's guys) I will respond here.

The fans are definetly worth it. The hardest part of the install was the temp sensor into the lower rad hose. For some reason I had a hard time getting it to seal. The solution? Two hose clamps.

I got the FLX210 kit from Checker Auto in Phoenix. (Its like an Autozone or something). The kit was $199 - which is better than Summit Racing ($219). I used this site (taken from Gadget's site) to aid in the install. That site helped tremendously. Its really pretty easy. Getting everything out really cleans up the engine bay.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. Hopefully I will be installing my fans on a 4Runner sometime soon!

Debt reduction is more important than having a nice vehicle. I will take the BUS before I go into debt.

Dito what dajabr said. (except for maybe the bus part--not with the bus system here )

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Have fun.
