Napa 1515 (Wix Filter) Questions

My buddy has a 1987 Toyota 4x4 X-Tra cab truck, with the 4 cyl 22re motor, and i do his oil & filter changes,we would like to run 5 - 6k oil change intervals with filter, and we were curious if a napa 1515 (ph8a orange can o death fram equivalant) filter would fit without issues, there is plenty of clearance from when i last looked and put the standard ph3614 fram filter equivalant on from napa (a napa gold),and we would like a quart or so extra oil capacity, and somemore filtration ability,it looks that it will fit without leaks. Anyone try this?,please advise. Thanks much

P.S - Castrol syntec 10w30 oil is what we use

1515 is a diesel filter, but it'll work great(just more holding capacity). i'd buy them if they ever had them in stock at the local parts place that sells wix filters

Digging this thread up......

Do the WIX 1515 have an anti-drainback valve?

Kyle,
Try your local Carquest store. Their # is 81515 (I think they just add an "8" to the wix number)

BTW, Wix makes the CQ and NAPA premium filters.

Another decent filter is the Carquest premium filter. I have seen them cut in half at the store beside other filters like the Fram. They have metal endcaps, anti drainback valve, and bypass valve. Around $5. If you are going to spend that much money on oil I would go with a real synthetic like Mobil 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple. Syntec is just a super refined dino oil.

napa/carquest ARE wix filters

i noticed that the diesel filter seems to be a "common" one, as autozone has the model in stock in it's own cheapo brand(valucraft). they only have about 10 different numbers at our store, and guess what? the toyota diesel one is in there. i might have to do some cross-referencing and find out what exactly is interchangeable and common

the fram ph3614 is what most toyota trucks use... however a ph3600 (same diamter but about twice as long) also fits (mainly used on v6 fords mustangs, rangers and others) as do the ph8a (wider and bigger, most commonly found on ford v8s and ford trucks, mustangs use them)

Yes, the NAPA gold 1515 fits (it's on my son's 22re now) and yes it has an anti-drain valve

fram filters are junk...when i bought my truck it'd take about 6 or 7 seconds to register oil pressure because the huge fram filter the previous owner installed took forever to fill up with oil...no drainback valve or anything there it seemed.

i figure $2 more every few months is worth it, compared to rebuilding an engine...
